Okay, here's ONE thing about 1911s that sucks.....

Just a thought for the ladies and gentlemen of this thread and this forum. If it doesn't work then send it back! Instead of just dumping it and getting an after market item, send it back with a letter of explanation and tell them that it is unacceptable to send inferior parts with your gun purchases and that if the practice doesn't stop you will go elswhere for your guns and parts. You also might consider getting up a petition signed by the members of the forum saying something to the same effect. If enough people do these little things, they will change the way these companies do business. But they can't fix it if you don't let them know that something is amiss! And you could still get an aftermarket part for in the mean time. Also there is strength in numbers. Like I said, just a thought.

O.K. here are two real shortcomings

1.) Grip safety - what the *&%$! - why would anyone want a gun with a grip safety in this day and age?

2.) What's with the big beaver tail sticking out - this sure doesn't help you conceal your weapon.

Call me lucky. I've got original colt 7 and 8 round mags, 2 wilson 8 round, 4 shooting star 8 round, 2 ten round springfield armory, and 5 or 6 butt cheap gunshow crap (from before I knew better).

10,000+ rounds between a gold cup and a "wilsonized" gov't. Not one mag related hiccup. Some FTFs that were related to improper barrel fit, and some of my early, sorry-ass reloads.

I'm beginning to wonder if the great 1911 mag reliability issue is really an issue. My .02

Only one magazine?

My nice new SIG P210-5 that Santa brought me came with only one magazine. You'd think that for that price, they could spring for at least two.

I totally Agree:mad: When I got My Colt 1991A1 it came with ONE 7rd mag. I went out and bought an 8rd Colt mag and BOTH started bending up and allowing the slide to close on an empty chamber. I just got done Salvaging the 8rd mag and converted it to a more Wilson's style follower.

I still have 4 ProMag 8rd that don't let the slide come forward on a fully loaded Mag. I have to pull back two or three times before it finally pushes a round into the chamber. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to these mags? They work fine otherwise?-

Kimber Ultra Eclipse II...

Came with one magazine. How can a company make such a fine pistol and ship it with a POS magazine. In a word, Wilson. ww.wisoncombat.com with them the pistol function is flawless.

My Springfield had two.

They work fine.

So far, no better or worse that various aftermarkets.

But...

I'm a fan of magazines that hold 8 cartridges, so it's a relatively moot point for me.

dsk, I am afraid you completely misdiagnosed the problem and put the blame in the wrong place! The problem of only coming with one magazine is not a fault of the 1911 model of gun. It is a fault of the manufacturer for only including one in the package. Besides, given some of the cruddy magazines that get shipped with some 1911s, I am certain many people would not like to pay for two pieces of junk.

That being said, Wilson includes two or more mags with their guns, quality Wilson Combat magazines at that! - none of this third party stuff.

Virtually all the ones currently made (regardless of manufacturer) only come with ONE magazine, and it is usually a piece of crapola!

 This thread still alive, huh?

Well dsk, I hate to tell you but there is a manufacturer of 1911's that includes 2 mags with every gun. Someone mentioned it earlier in the thread, but it is Daly.

Now..how is it that the most economical 1911 on the market (quality issues, perceived or real aside) chooses to include 2 mags & no one else does?

Enquiring minds want to know....

Could it be that the gun companies believe that with the accuracy and power of a .45 in a 1911 that you only need one mag full?.................

There are so many opinions as to mags, that the gun companies probably just gave up. They assume we are going to buy the mags that we like anyway, so why waste money on something that will sit in a drawer.

Why? Because................

hello, i am not for sure about other manufactures, but i have purchased two springfield armory longslides one standard and one trophy match and both guns had two good mags from the factory(the trophy match had one with a rubber pad also). thanks chris. :) :)

Get a Springfield... my 1911A1 Loaded came with two Chip McCormick 7rounders. Function flawlessly. I picked up a couple Chip McCormick 8 rounders at the last funshow for about $14 each, and they work great!

I'm sure that SOME 1911 manufacturers put crappy mags with 'em, but 1911 mags are VERY common and don't cost much.
