Okay, here's ONE thing about 1911s that sucks.....

Virtually all the ones currently made (regardless of manufacturer) only come with ONE magazine, and it is usually a piece of crapola!

I don't know of any other service pistol on the market where they only provide one magazine, except just prior to the Crime Bill when some shipped with just one hi-cap. However except for the 1911, if you want a reliable gun you use the factory magazines only. But if you buy a Colt, Kimber, or Springfield, your first order of business is to ash-can the factory mag and go buy some Wilson or Metalform magazines!

I won't trust any mag...

Except the Baer and the Wilson 47D. A fllawless running 1911 is due to three things: A good gun, good magazines, and good ammunition.

Well, I can't exactly disagree with you since my experience is rather limited, but I bought a Springfield last October that came with two mags and I have yet to have any problems with them at all.

Agree that any semiauto should come with at least two mags. I've had two Colt 1991A1's both came with only one magazine. Contray to a lot of post though my Colt mags both worked fine.

The one thing about 1911's that REALLY does suck is the price tag for a quality Kimber, Colt, SA, Les Baer, etc.

Other than that one thing, I think they're great...

Too bad there's no way can I afford to get one of those. :(

For years, Metalform made Colt's "factory" magazines, and the current "Colt" 8-rounders are Shooting Stars. Since I have a dozne mags already (and what reputable 1911 fan doesn't?), it's fine with me that I don't have to pay for another one if I buy a Colt.

Well, I used to swear by factory Colt mags. The last Colt I bought was reliable with every mag I tried except one- the one that came with the pistol.

Well, I don't know if it is classified as a service pistol of not, but my PT940 only came with 1 mag, a 10-rounder.

My Colt Mustang came with only one.

My KelTec P32 came with only one.

I can't remember if my 4516-1 had one or 2.

Although not a handgun, my Mini-14 came with only (1) 5-rounder.

Personally, I think every semi-auto should come with at least 2 mags. If not, how about a coupon or offer to by a few extras at a steep (50% or more) discount?

But - while I know many manufacturers do include an extra mag, I don't think it is a 1911 only practice.

If you want 2 mags and don't ask for them to be included in the deal, thats not the fault of the manufacturer..I think all pistols should come with at least 3 mags..One for the gun, and 2 for the twin mag carriers.. The amount of mags won't stop me from buying a gun I want..Is that really why you are angry?

I've been using Chip McCormick Shooting Stars (8rnd) magazines for a while now.

Though I have five of them for my Kimber, it's usually two that are primarily used for range practice. I have, however, put at least a hundred rounds through the other three and several hundred through the primary two without anything but a perfect function record.

It's possible the reason well respected 1911 manufacturers only include on magazine with their product is because they realize most folks have their own preferred magazine manufacturer and plan on replacing the factory mag anyway.
It would still be nice to include a spare for those who don't.

My Charles Daly came with two magazines and both have been 100% reliable with ball ammunition. (I will be trying some hollowpoints in the future to see if this trend will continue.) My Ruger Mini-14 is the only semi-auto firearm I've purchased that didn't come with at least two magazines from the factory.

My new Springfield Loaded came with two mags. I have only put 350 rounds through it but both factory mags have functioned perfectly.

colt and GI mags have always worked just fine, for me.

I've repaired a bunch of Brand X mags. Tweak with the lips, sand the sides so they'll drop out...sometimes, take a hammer and square the rear of the mag! :) Bad mags make good projects for when there's not much else to do...
