OK... who carries an odd ball ???

Does it count if it's just an oddball caliber in a common-as-dirt platform?

While not as exotic or daring as some of you guys, my daily carry is a re-sprung 1911 in 9x23, loaded well into .357 Mag territory. When asked about it, I generally just have to tell people it's like a 9mm magnum. It's not something you just go get ammo for at Wal-Mart.

On the other end of the spectrum, my pocket gun for dressier occasions is a 60 year old Spanish copy of a Colt 1908, chambered in .22 short. Not a lot of steam, but with pearl grips over a well worn blue finish, it's definitely classy, in a tiny sort of way.

The 9x23 has my respect. Near 357Mag performance, fine-tuned for a single-stack setup instead of the 357Sig, which is fatter.

I am impressed! I had been thinking that no one would admit to carrying anything but the very latest (or a 1911). And I thought a Walther P5 was an oddball.

I am also surprised that current S&W J-frame grips fit something that old, presumably with a little fitting.

Regarding the gentleman who carries a .22 automatic, the late Rex Applegate claimed to have carried one for a while, too, though he never used it. He did have the occasion to use a Smith & Wesson .38 S&W (one of the old breaktops) but after an incident when the assailant didn't drop like a rock, he persuaded S&W to produce a similiar model in .38 Special, which was the original Centennial, if I have the names correct.

People who live a little further back in the woods than most people sometimes have things that are a little older than average and one never knows what might be sitting behind the bedroom door or in a drawer somewhere. H&R revolvers, for example, tend to be around for generations, and are used sometimes for killing snakes but not for much else. I lived in the country for a while after my father remarried (my mother having died at age 47) and believe me, they are gun people. They had a single shot Winchester .32-40 (if I remember correctly). Don't know whose it was or what became of it and I never saw it fired. However, at the time, everything was 50 years newer than they are now, so it wasn't that remarkable.

Thanks for all the reply's guys... while I do have a CZ Compact 9 & my new TCP 380 in my carry library ( as well as a Witness 10 mm ) ... most are revolvers, & most old... ( I do also have an Air Weight J frame in 32 H&R Magnum... which is also an odd ball of sorts in the rotation )

in my night stand right now ( this is my current "rotation" ) are 3 revolvers my lil 32 S&W 1.5 snubbie, my 38 S&W #2, & my custom Ruger 45 Snubbie...

in all fairness though... The TCP will likely get regular use once I get the holster I'm making for it done... but then it's just about summer sweating season & the rollerblades will be out soon, which will force me to carry something more easily replaceable... which the 2 old Smithy's aren't

I carried my Coonan Classic for a while but the shoulder holster is cheep and fairly uncomfortable.

may be ill look in to a better holster for it eventually.

Sometimes I carry this Webley MKIII when clothing permits:
