OK, Whats the beef with Ayoob?

I suppose that if Messiah Adoodi knew as much about Glocks as a few of the "internet" experts, he'd know that the fix for the new, 10-round mags is to trim and bevel the follower legs. Then, it's fine to keep your Glock 10-round mag fully loaded.

Somebody wrote that he's a lawyer. Where did he get his law degree, and how many years has he practiced law??? That's all news to me.

I personally don't have anything against or for Adoodi. He's irrelevant to me and my interesting, exciting life.

I've never met the man, but have watched his rise in the ranks of the 'zine writers over the years.
He has berated one caliber over another, then pulled a 180 degree switch and embraced it.

He has extolled the virtues (in print)of ammunition in which he had a vested interest, and has embraced other firearms, ammo, and gadgets over the years in the same way.

He has tried to ram the "reloads will kill you in court" baloney down the readers' collective throats for years, yet to the best of my knowledge, there has never been a self defense/murder case wherein factory vs. reload became an issue.

PlusP, have you been published for pay in any mass-circulation gun magazines or written any books published for purchase?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Over 300 gun magazine articles, 10 years with SWAT magazine, edited a few. Two books, one for teens and what they need to know about cops, and one on lethal force. The one on lethal force was co-authored with my friend Julio Santiago who INVENTED night sights and is considered the most valued expert on shooting in the dark in the world. He also was involved in a fatal shooting. Will see him tomorrow in class. He almost always stops by to say "hello" to the students.
He is getting on in years, but still a wealth of information. Have another book, "Fatal Shadows" almost complete. Only some editing etc., left.
I left gun rags when I got tired of the armchair experts and Larry Flint the porn king bought SWAT (he still owns it) and I got a check with his signature.

Maybe " not wanting to get drunk" with someone says a lot more about drinking than it does about the person.

Nobody is perfect.

I'll agree with that...and so will Ayoob. He does enough and has a high enough profile that occasionall, thru being human, he will make a mistake and get berated by it. Taking a single comment or act and berating it out of context and error tolerances is simply unfair to anyone.

To rehash creamed cases...
Ayoob does mention them to his students, especially if they ask. There's no particular reason for him to put screwups in print for the average gunrag reader to giggle over while drooling at the latest gizmos.

Just curious about the name.

Many of us percieve "What the hell kind of name is..." to be something less than an innocent query. Dropping the curse would help raise the innocece factor.

I don't enthusiasticly endorse him because I've seen him quoted as stating he believes citizens ought to be required to pass a gun training/proficiency test before being able to own a gun, or something similar - he thinks if you haven't had his training course, you really don't know what the hell you're doing.

He does not limit it to his own courses. After taking LFI-I, I felt about the same, having just realized how profoundly gun-stupid most people are. Methinks he would _like_ to see it, but recognizes that it won't fly in the face of rights issues; it's not a hard-and-fast rule to fight for, just a wish.

Somebody wrote that he's a lawyer.

He's not a lawyer. He's an expert witness.

I personally don't have anything against or for Adoodi.

Then at least have the common decency to not insult his name.

He has berated one caliber over another, then pulled a 180 degree switch and embraced it.

He's allowed to change his mind, especially as technolgies and needs change. Watch the context: he'll gladly berate the .32 ("Friends don't let friends carry mouse guns"), but then recognize that it is actually suitable for certain uses (office workers need deep concealment; a 1911 or even G26 would be spotted eventually and the worker fired).

He has extolled the virtues (in print)of ammunition in which he had a vested interest, and has embraced other firearms, ammo, and gadgets over the years in the same way.

He's also repeatedly said that he won't vest any interest in anything that is not of high virtue.

He has tried to ram the "reloads will kill you in court" baloney down the readers' collective throats for years, yet to the best of my knowledge, there has never been a self defense/murder case wherein factory vs. reload became an issue.

As someone active in gun-related court cases, he's come to that reasonable conclusion. The point is not that there has been any such cases, but that in today's legal climate there likely will be such an issue.

He also makes it clear that it is ONE issue among MANY. Just be aware of the issue and balance it against all the other issues one should consider. If you intelligently accept the risk (however great or small it is) that's fine with him. He does NOT say "absolutely no reloads".

Side note:
PlusP,
We've banged heads over this from time to time. Let me just state again that I do respect you as having much experience on the street and in print, and enjoy reading your posts and learn from them.

No problem, Muscles, just remember this experience next time you're about to blast somebody over remarks that <i>sound</i> un-PC. It's too easy to make yourself sound really stupid or worse when no one can hear your tone of voice.

I'd like to hear more about Mr. Ayoob's endorsement of ammo in which he had a vested interest. That's a lot more valid criticism in my mind, unless he was up front about his vested interest in it. I wouldn't consider that wrong at all, though I would take the recommendation with a grain of salt.

And FNG, you're probably right. But I'm still not gonna stop anytime soon. Then again, I don't get falling-down drunk, much less do it with a famous gunfighter known for his temper.

I owe Mas a great deal for helping to keep me out of deep doo-doo when I was doing my stint in a place of bad things. The info LFI has to relate on the civilian use of deadly force is worth looking into if you are at all interested in avoiding losing yourself in the ugly pit of civil (and even criminal) liability. As the social and political climate of our great nation continues to slide towards rampant hoplophobia, you may want to consider this. And, besides the gun stuff, he's got a pretty good stand up comedy delivery!

As for Askins, I recall him writing and bragging about pistol whipping a suspect under interrogation, and calling an incident where a fellow officer got shot and killed as "Fun". It was also pretty obvious from his writings he was a stone cold bigot and given't give a d*m about anyone else.

Sorry, despite his obvious skills and courage, he's not one of MY role models.

As for Ayoob, he's human, subject to error, but he's dedicated to finding the best way for officers to get home after their shift.

Considering the training staff of various agencies I've had to deal with in the past that got their positions due to relatives, politics and other non merit issues, and the personnel that created firing courses that resembled reality like Malibu Barbie resembled a real woman, Ayoob looks pretty $#%^&*( good from here, obscenity, funny name and all......

Sorry, didn't realize the word "hell" solely dictates the intent of someone's message. Now that I've read all the posts, it is clear that a lot of backlash comes from people who don't like him for petty reasons, and I see how someone could misinterpret my post. To me all these "Thunderanches" and "tactical RII" blah blah blah are nothing more than fantasy camps for old babyboomers getting in touch with their inner child. Soldier boy wannabes or rehashers. Yep, I played paintball when I was 13, and each weekend their would be a group of dipsh*ts drive up in their Mercedes Benz all cammied up with Vietnam patches on (they were all green beret of course). They always had the $2,000 full auto guns and overpriced doodads, much as I'm sure some dipwad is paying $2,000 for his new "Ultra green teflon balanced and blueprinted" 1911 just to impress Clint and the boys. Whatever man, save your money on a lawyer. If a prosecuter ever found out you attended Ayoob or whoevers "tactical" class, your going down big time.

Ok, you can start crying about my post .......NOW !

Gwinny, big difference between what REARdon and I said. I didn't ask whether the guy had a "towel on his head" der hee-hee, or used a magic marker to make dots on his forehead ect. ect. . Thats just plain ol' racist. I Sincerely didn't know what nationality the guy was, and at the very most could be called provincial. So be it.
