Ok time to show your German ladies with their leather taken off.;)
This thread is a photo heavy (I hope) of German military pistols with original leather. The following are two that I own.
A Belgium Browning 32 auto. It’s German since it does have the swastikas.
The other is a Luger. (Ok the holster isnt German).

There were three different Waffenamts used on the 1922 as well as some eagle N commercial prrofs used on some very crude late wartime guns. Which do you have? (613, 103, 140, Eagle N)

I've also seen a couple examples with no Waffenamts, only test proofs.

I'm guessing yours is an earlier mid-range gun with a 140 WaA due to the wood grips and the fact that it still retains the "shoe" type trigger. Although I can't quite make it out, it appears to have a full 6 digit s/n in the 100,000 range. From what I have observed on examples over the last 40 years or so, the full 6 digit numbers seem to fall in blocks interspersed with 5 (or less) numbers with an "a" suffix, and to a much lesser extent in the "b" range.

I've wanted to reply to this thread since it was new but I kept forgetting to do it. Well here I am finally.

Here are my German ladies, with leather removed.

First a P38 CYQ e block, with a FKX 4 P38 softshell holster. Also present is a JVD spare magazine from WWII.

Mauser HSc 3rd type/variation E/135 accepted with Neuner WaA938 holster and spare mag.

Sauer 38H 4th type/varation (slide legend dropped) Eagle/C police pistol in an "Otto Sindel Berlin 1943" holster and spare mag.

Mauser 1914 SN 288380 Weimar era Police Pistol with front strap marking "P.D.Br 176." which refers to Polizeidirektion Bremen weapon number 176. Holster is unmarked and has spare mag.

Last but not least, my DWM Dutch Contract Luger. DWM got this contract before WWI and started producing these in the 1912-1914 time frame. DWM ended production for the Dutch in 1914 so that they could produce more for their own army after less than 5,000 were produced. This one was an army vartiation, with the grip safety as ordered by the Dutch. Has origininal nickel body wood bottom unmarked mag and a very rare Dutch made luger holster with cleaning rod. One may wonder how these got into the US when we never fought the Dutch? Good question. The Imperial Japanese invaded the Dutch East Indies in 1942 and captured them. They were after the natural resources of the area for their war effort. The Royal Dutch East Indies Army (KNIL) still was issued these same lugers which DWM made for the Dutch before WWI. This gun was first a Japanese war prize (look in second photo, kanji markings are present on the inside of the holster flap) but was later an American war prize. A very special package.

Top row, starting left, DWM 1917 Navy Luger, AC 43 P38, CYQ V block P38
2nd row, on left, FN P35 hi power Wa140 marked, Walther PP 32 Eagle/N and finally a Walther PP E/359 hi sheen (polish) with original SN mag (I am told this was a Luftwaffe contract gun).
3rd row, on left, JP Sauer 1913 with Imperial Army acceptance, JP Sauer 38H type 3 Eagle/C police pistol, FNH CZ 27 with WaA76 inspection mark.

My German lady has always been sans (or should I say ohne) leather, and spending what I paid for the pistol to get an original holster gives me sharp pains in the region of my wallet!

But mine is a '44 cyq P.38, numbers matching (non-forced) that was also a Soviet capture. Kind of cool having a WWII and Cold War relic at the same time

I would say both. Judging by the color/hue of the blue and the brightness of the strawing, I would say reblued/restored AND it appears to be commercial because the SN parts have the SN on the bottom instead of top / front of part, which is how they are marked when issued to the military.

Another addition I recently got, a Walther model 4. Not often seen today. They are 32 acp. Some were issued for WWI although this one appears to be a WWI era commercial. Holster is unmarked but has been with the gun for a long time. This one is pretty clean compared to most. For $375 shipped, I think I did good.

Was it stamped "made in Germany" in English for export reasons?

Thank you. It takes a lot of time and reading, an understanding wife and a little money and anyone can have the same or better. I enjoy being into a lot of different kinds of guns because I lose focus when I do the same thing over and over again. I also enjoy talking to other collectors and this website helps me to do that. I have learned a lot here and hopefully I have helped some others as well.

Yes that is how I understand it. For a German commercial gun, there wouldn't be a reason to stamp "MADE IN GERMANY" in English. Often times German commercial guns just have the nitro proofs and no other markings.

I once collected German/Axis pistols and had a few Sauer 38H's. One was a Nazi Police pistol with a commercial finish that was about 99% -what a slick little gun! I always thought that cocking/decocking lever was a great design and don't know why it was never copied by anybody. Would have been great chambered in .380.
