ok, my friends think I'm nuts

I've actually burnt up two hair dryers in the last year drying Sweetshooter on guns with them. These things are not a problem, even if friends and family think you're a little weird because of them, until the wife needs to use the hair dryer. If they make the remark you love your guns more than them do not....I repeat do not just look at them and grin.

You should see the expression on your friends faces when you reach into a pot on the stove and pull out the frame for a black powder revolver...

Or the expression on their faces when you're forced to draw a gun and point it at someone, and they have NO idea that you carry a gun in the first place.

Both have happened to me...

ArmySon said: "They came over the other day. Of course, without knocking, they let em selves in yelling, "Son, where are you?"
I yelled, down in the den. They came down there and I was blow drying my 1911 with a hair dryer."

I hope "someone" was upstairs watching your flank. What "condition" were you in, Pale, white, or what? Someone got in and you were caught unawares? Not trying to flame here, but after reading all the postings about being alert, ready, home invasions, etc., is domething amiss here?

I have become much more aware of my surrondings even at home. And we live off a dead end road on several acres. While cutting grass the other day I should have been carrying then. Came up upon a huge turtle in our lake. Could have dispatched it if I was carrying. Turtles eat the fish and make a mess of the banks. Cut the grass yesterday, was packing. But no turtle.

To Mike Irwin's "Both have happened to me..." Care to elaborate?

The BP revolver was being cleaned after a heavy shooting session.

Easiest way to clean it really thoroughly was to boil it on the stove with some dish detergent, then rinse thoroughly, then boil in clean water so that it would flash dry.

The other was I was driving with friends, and it was a really crappy night. Pulled down the ramp onto the highway, and traffic was stopped. When I stopped, a guy hopped into the Suburban with the comment "Hey A**hole, you're going to f****** take me to...."

At that point I drew down on him and told him to get out of the truck.

He did, I whipped up the shoulder, took the next cloverleaf, and called the police.

No harm, no foul, I had a permit, they didn't really want to look for the guy since he hadn't expressly threatened us.

My friend's never really said a word until much later in the evening.

Uhm, you should also realize that if it was a stranger entering my house, my dog would tear them to shreads. He only is quiet towards those he knows.

I was going to make a joke about every gun deserving a good blow now and then but refrained out of deference to everyone's sensibilities. :)

ArmySon,

What you shoulda done instead was drive down the interstate at a very high speed with the windows open and hold the gun out so it could be dried by the natural wind.

Mute - that is funny.

I seem to remember someone leaving the gun in the oven and later the other party turning it on to prewarm it at a hire temp and BOOM.

Don't worry ArmySon, I understand. I occasionally strip my stainless 1911 all the way down and wash the slide, frame and barrel in the dishwasher. The only difference is, I use an air compressor to dry the gun. Hair dryers are kinda wussy compared to 120lbs of air blasting away water. :)
