And I traded it for the new S70 National Match. So pretty is this gun, Colt is doing phenom work. I'm not planning to shoot this one either. I need one to shoot, my 1991 will get tired by 2059 if not.
1969colt, The light weight Commander is one of my all time favorite pistols, take this one out and shoot the beans out of and by no means trade or sell it. In a few years you will have such an attachment to that pistol it will be your no. 1 keeper. Rather than trade your good stuff grit your teeth and save the bucks needed for another purchase....i am very impulsive but selling is not in my vocabulary.
"... take this one out and shoot the beans out of ... it."
But be aware that the lightweight Commander is not as durable as the standard steel model 1911. It will take a lot, but we need to recognize it for what it is.
The update is I traded it for the S70 remake GCNM. And I'm a little disappointed in the GC. The safety is goofy like sloppy. But, I've never sent a Colt in for rework. Whats the process, do I call and get a shipping certificate? Do I have to resubmit a transfer gun form on return? The gun is very pretty and I wish I had kept the Lightweight. But money is in beer and cigarettes.
Go on the wagon and get rid of the daily doses of cancer then take the buckets of cash left over and buy lots of ammo. Not sure about your " gun transfer" comment, normally you ship to the manufacturer ( wether your dime or theirs) and they return directly to you. If they do not provide you with a shipping label be sure and get the proper procedure direct from the factory before sending a firearm to them.
Seems like I read that the high priest of the 1911 cult, Jeff Cooper, once wrote that the Commander family was the ultimate personal handgun. Not sure if he was referring to the alloy or the steel version.
I had a 70 Series electroless nickel one for about a period of years, but could never get that pistol to run and eventually traded it away.
No I had a 1991 Stainless Commander and it was tremendous. May have malfunctioned a time or two in over 1000 rounds. But was really good accurate, reliable gun. The Commander size is smallest many high end manufacturers will do. Like Les Baer, Wilson probably others. But I believe its smartest to stick with at least 4.25 in barrel length.
LW Commanders are nice. For pictures you might try Photobucket or another web based photo hosting site. Below is the 2013 Wiley Clapp Commander I carry.
If life was that easy, we would all win. It made me a little aggrevated to call Colt and the secretary says that I need to check website for instructions.
Then it comes to me explaining problem to, I'll transfer call to custom shop. No answer. Then she comes back a questions about this and that. I told her I have owned many Colts and 1911s.
Then she responds, if its actual problem we can send a shipping label.
I really do like Colt always. But I saw this in the way this conversation went. I wouldn't think Ruger , Wilson, Springfield would question you on purchase of a top model.
I still love Colts and maybe I will fire this Gold Cup. The world won't miss it. It's really pretty Colt makes em so nice these days.
Ok that Lightweight Commander looks real sweet dakota. My only issues were the durability. No idea why, as I'm 47 and fire maybe 500 rounds or less per year though any one gun. Commander length is such good length though, shoot or carry wise.
I have two Springfields, a Long Slide V16 and a Springfield Pro. Love them both and my two sons already have called dibs lol. I do want a Colt Defender, only heard great things about them.
