Ok I bought a Colt Lightweight Commander

I have owned a stainless steel Commander before. But for whatever reason this Lightweight turned me on.

So the gunshop employee was saying, he saw I was interested. Let me know what you want to do.

I decided to trade my RIA Mil Spec. I delt with owner at this point, and had my receipt from same shop. I paid 475 list plus taxes otd receipt. They offered 300. Blown away and weak at negotiation skills, I went to work.

I said how bout this and that, and ended up at 600 otd on a asking price 875 Colt Commander Lightweight .45 ACP. No idea I did good but I love Colt and that RIA I Did'nt trust for bang bang all the time. So I lost 200, but I think I'm good in long run cause I love Colts.

Like I said this guy saw threw me. The whole story was, I Am interested. I went home and stiil thinking about it.

Got the RIA Milspec, I figured original receipt good to go. I only fired 150 rounds threw gun. The'll knock off 100. No way Hosey they will be a pawn shop with me.

I feel it is a money maker for them, but like I said I love Colts for my reasons. Anyone see's you, you don't have much. But like I said, he said the price was pretty solid on Colt. And my thing wasn't worth much.

Maybe I need a advisor, no idea.

A RIA is a RIA, not a lot of value there to begin with. Plus, getting low balled is the nature of trading a gun in at a dealer, it's seldom that anyone does it and comes away feeling like they did well. It almost always makes better economic sense to sell a gun outright than trade it in, you can just about always sell it for more than the trade value.

More importantly, what about the Commander? Have you got pics? Have you shot it? I just picked up a new lightweight Wiley Capp Commander last week, very nice pistol, really well put together, great trigger. I'm very happy with it.

Yeah I knew I would get hosed when I got back in car with original empty mag to trade. But I knew I wanted this lightweight. I will attempt to figure out how to post pics. The Wiley Clapp huh? I think I've seen pics, but Colt's get me making trades and layaways enough. Thanks for replys fellas.

I try not to look back on gun trades after it's done. You got what you really wanted in the Colt LW Commander. My son has an RIA enhanced or loaded or whatever they call it and it's a nice pistol for the money but it really doesn't compare to my Colt Commander.
You got a fair deal, enjoy it!

I think so too, and the gun I didn't want saved me some bucs. I feel good about it. Now to get a CCW I guess as this is one of the best carry 1911s, it seems. I might or might not go to concealed carry though. Never done it and might break rules in it.

So I went to gun shop and paid remainder of balance. But, as usual lately I have to wait till Thursday latest to pick up. Oh well its a pretty gun, I just wanted to feed it some ammo this weekend. It won't be a high round count gun, but I wanna do a shakedown and keep fresh with it. I think I'm gonna get a CCW, I like to buy and take home not wait to take home my gun.

Nice! Yeah you did good getting rid of the Rock, and swapping for a colt. I have never shot a colt but handled a ton of them. Might want to work on your grammar a little bit, your posts are a bit shakey and dont make perfect sense. Post pictures if you can!

If I understand your saying I'm kinda dumb. Not true I'm no genius I admit, but I am thinking safe queen on the lightweight or trade. Because it's a real pretty gun (1). And weight throws me off in this Commander size (used to own a 1991 stainless model (2).

What I really hate is that I want every 2016 Colt made. The markings aren't as good as early models. But reliability, finish is above I think. Keep em coming Colt! Me likey, I'm thinking I'll just continue to shoot my 1991 Gov and search for a 1991 in blue or a Gold Cup either one. That's it, Iwon't step to a SCG or accept strange collors( like blue grips and sights). Appologize if I've offended anyone. And don't feel bad, you can't offend me.

You know what 1969colt1911, perfect grammar isn't necessary for good gun conversations!

I taught post secondary (vocation/technical school) for six years and many of my better students were probably not the best when it came to English grammar and punctuation but they made great electric linemen (which is what I am and what I taught).

I have no problem whatsoever following your posts.

I also would enjoy seeing pictures of your new Commander.

I've been trying to figure out how to post pics. I never graduated high school, got GED then off to Aircraft maintenance school. Been doing that over 25 yrs, and I have and continue to buy and sell-trade many fine 1911s, mostly Colts.

I get to frustrated in the pics department. If it doesn't work right away, I figure go play pokerstars and go back to it later. Anyway now you know why my grammer is terrible. But I try to make sense.

1969Colt1911,

I think you did good. You sold a gun you don't trust for one you do. That cost you $600.

Regarding your deal, negotiation ability.....assuming your RIA was still in $475 condition, I would guess most dealers would give you 50-55% trade. You got 63%! On the Colt, you paid 92% msrp. I think that is fine.

I would have done it slightly different. I would have sold on MeWe or Armslist for ~$400 and bought from Grabagun for $822+$7 ship +$20 transfer. That is a lot of extra work for $125. I just enjoy the art of the deal part.

I have to do the deal right now. I feel right now, I know that's wrong. Anyway this lightweight is still nib. Any over 1000 bids?

But the Hornidy, Horiday I can't spell, my 1991 also loved those. I can't toss in a mag full of anything it doesn't love. 185 grain hollow-exploded the coffee can vs holing it. I am learning still I love em and won't leave em now. Like the marine corp. Or any of our brothers and sisters at arm.

Ok what I was saying is I think I am not going to shoot Commander Lightbaby. I have her loaded 185 gr but no shots. My 1991 loved any and all ammo including this. This gun just loves ammo of any kind.

You sickos got me back into collecting. I was completely out of game, sold total collection(1917 UMC, 1916 Commercial, 2 GCT STS, 2 Government S70S, 1991s 4 total, Springfield GI spec 2 total, 1 Python. The list goes a little further. But I'm back into this, and I blame all sickos. Now quite buying so prices will drop.

Thanks a lot for replys fellas, and yes I am sending in money to NRA for 5 yrs. Colt card makes it seem good deal. I go to NRA website and same price. Oh well it's good cause the NRA. I like plinking and talking trash, very fun. Oh and I feel I got a good deal definitely. I got a gun I like to much to shoot unfortunately. Once I get a Gold Cup again, it's lights out on any target I see. Thanks again all, and good shooting!
