Oh No! My new Remington R1 is having problems...

Mellow, watch your tracking #s for the rebates. I turned mine in around 5/28 and noticed last night it was approved and status now is ready to be mailed. Of course it could take another month for that! I bought an R1 Commander about a month after the full size R1 so that one's still pending.

I love Remington's short trigger/flat MSH combination. Unusual but fits me perfect. In fact I went to a flat MSH on my old 1976 Colt 1911A1 to get the R1 feel. I wish I'd known years ago how much I'd like it!

Maybe you should just try the long trigger on one to compare A/B first hand?

I love everything about the R1 Government Model and R1 Commander in Remington's hybrid 1911A1 configuration. The only change I've made is dark barrel bushings, don't like the SS look. I put calipers on the originals then ordered the same size. No others changes needed, I don't get hammer bite.

I have been a 1911 shooter and collector for well over 40 years. Some of the magazines manufacturers put in nice guns is just short of being criminal. With that being said, I put aside the factory magazine and replace it with my preference, Wilson Combat Mags. After shooting more than 500 rounds in a particular gun, it is a safe assumption that I "feel" the gun and I know what has to be accomplished to get it exactly the way I like it.

Usually a 1911 will have a feed problem when it is new for one of three reasons:
1. It doesn't like the ammo you are feeding it...change brands.
2. You are limp wristing it...work on your grip.
3. The mag is not worth the metal it is made from.

Another consideration for 1911's: some guns need to have periodic recoil spring changes while other 1911's just seem to go on and on. I like to change to different tension springs to see if it improves the cycling of the slide, and extraction of the casing. If it does not, I go back to the original tension spring. Always a good idea to keep an extra recoil spring in your range bag.

Quentin, I haven't paid any attention to my rebates. I just mailed them in and trust that I will get them sometime. It will be a nice surprise to have $150.00 in the form of two $75.00 checks someday. Any guess as to what I'll spend it on? Lol. I need to look into what it takes to install a trigger on a 1911. I've got a Dan Wesson with a long trigger so I know I prefer the feel. They aren't very expensive though so that's nice!

45Gunner. I think #3 takes the cake. When I get my replacement magazines I'll take them to my local pawn and gun shop and tell them I'd like to sell them or possibly trade them towards something.

My short front sight showed up today. I loosened the set screw, knocked out the old one (very easy) and slid in the new one (way too easy!) I used some blue lock tite in the dovetail and also on the set screw, I hope it holds because the sight just slid right in with my fingers.
