Officer down

I have a brother in the police.

Officer Tipton, my thoughts and wishes are with you. Get better, get stronger -- the world needs men like you.

Regards

Bruce

Sounds to me like he saved the woman's life. he just happened to get there before the jerk pulled the gun on her. He took three bullets for a complete stranger because he is dedicated to protecting an serving.

God bless officer Tipton. I will pray for his recovery and for the safekeeping of his family.

Man, this is about as clear-cut as to the cop being the good guy as they get.

As a tactical note: that the downed officer managing to get off a stopper of a shot is incredible. Without question, his doing so saved his own life, probably that of the woman and God knows how many bystanders. If the baddie had finished the officer off and then armed himself with the cop's gun(s?) this could have been a massacre.

With much of the damage on his left side, it's a good guess the officer fired the fight-stopper one-handed, strong hand. This is the kind of situation where "limp wristing" a slidegun would be almost inevitable, due to blood loss and general shock. A classic K-Frame size .357 wheelgun with a good load might have done as well or better for the officer, in this particular fight.

Damned interesting case...the officer really deserves to pull through this one. Best wishes.

Although I was never shot, I to have sustained life threatening injuries in the line of duty. It's hardest on the wives and families of the Officers involved.

I pray to God to heal this Officer, comfort and assure his family. God in the sweet name of Jesus, use this tragedy for your glory. May justice be done in this incident, Father. Encamp your angels around him and his and build a hedge of protection from further ill or harm. Amen

Prayers for a speedy and complete recovery go out to Tempe police Officer Wesley Tipton.

Best wishes & get well soon Sir.

Update-

The bullet that passed through his body evidently entered through a gap in the armor and passed through from back to front. It did not penetrate through the body armor from the front as originally thought.

After being stablized the last few days he went in for surgery(sp?) yesterday to piece back together his shattered femur. I haven't heard from his wife yet on how sucessfully the surgery went, but I will post an update as soon as I know.

Before his surgery he was in good spirits, and talking a bit when he was conscious.

The man who shot officer Tipton died yesterday from the gunshot wounds.

Thank you for your prayers and thoughts. I know they have helped.

Sincerely,

Cool - if he's awake four days later and the medics figure he's strong enough to withstand the relatively lower priority leg wound surgery, his odds are REAL good for a full recovery.

Your friend is truly a great officer of the law. I am glad he is doing well. He saved peoples lives including his own shooting this bad guy. This bad guy is thankfully not going to hurt anyone else. Your friend has taken a bad person off the street, and saved the rest of us from him. Thank him. And thank you for telling us about this, and updating us on the condition of the two involved.

My prayers are with Officer tipton. I would also like to interject that if the perp had survived he should be given the stiffest penalty under the law. Anyone using a gun in the commission of a crime should get the book thrown at him. And that goes especially if he was legally carrying. Have to make it know that if you use a gun felonously your gonna go away for a long long time.

I'm glad to hear that your friend is well enough to withstand surgery.

Heavenly Father,
Keep watch over Officer Tipton and his family through this, the most trying of times. Heal his wounds quickly so that he may continue on with his life. In the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.

As someone that was near the area when this incident happened, I want to thank Officer Tipton. He is no less than a hero. To face someone charging him with a blazing gun, but still have the fortitude to land a stopping shot, Officer Tipton will never know how many lives he saved that day. Also, as a CCW carrier in Phoenix, my only regret is that I could not have been there to assist him. Thankfully, he acted heroically on his own accord, and protected the innocent while risking his own life.

May God be with him,

Ps- I am curious exactly what load Officer Tipton was using. Whatever it was, it stopped that maniac in his tracks.
