they used to have it up to 24" and it started losing velocity after 18. att least when I saw it about a year ago. ill check again, maybe it was 38spl

so as you can see the velocities start to fall off after 16" all except the 125gr(which 17" is optimal) which is marginal. at 24" it loses even more. no matter what load you are looking at, it loses velocity after 16 except which starts losing at 17"
here is real world guns( I know other factors can play, but it still shows the trend) all loads show about 200 more fps from the shorter barrel

pistol powders just don't burn long enough to keep creating pressure for that long of a barrel
