NYPD Gun Smuggling Ring Busted

LOLing at Bloomerberg's remarks and him in general. Thank you for posting the link.

"All of the firearms had been rendered inoperable, however, as part of an elaborate sting..." from the cited article. Why am i not surprised that #1 they used disabled firearms and #2 that nobody noticed the firearms were disabled.

. . .ring that smuggled guns, cigarettes and slot machines. . .

Is there still money to be made in the cigarettes and gambling racket?

Also, function checks probably weren't high on the list of priorities. I doubt anyone wanted to take these things out to the range. And as long as they're getting their money, who cares? It's not like your disgruntled customers can do much about it. After all, their guns don't work. :D

Their tax on ciggs is so high it is profitable to get an ol' scow, run to the indian reservation across from New York on the canada side and load up cases of ciggs and smuggle them back... I thin they are at or around $5.00 per pack in taxes there...

In many parts of New York, cigarettes are $8-11 per pack. In New York City, they're $12-16(+) per pack.

When you cut out the $5-11 in taxes, there is a lot of money to be made. (As much as $200 per carton )

One thing I see anti-gunners doing over and over again - like in operation Fast & Furious and in New York and Chicago's laws on various things, is that they repeat the same failed policies.

A pack of Marlboros in Chicago cost close to $6.00 a pack.

My cousin who smokes makes these special trips to buy from a "certain guy" who can get her ciggs way cheaper.

Didn't the politicians in New York and Chicago ever hear of a prohibition? What a failure that was!

I've said this before. If the anti-gunners ever managed to completely restrict guns sales and succesfully ban citizens from owning them, the price on firearms would skyrocket, and it woud create a black market that would pay for enterprising criminals to manufacture guns.

It isn't that difficult to make a 1911 style handgun. Its not that difficult to make an AK style rifle, and if the prices were high enough it would easily pay for the start up costs of a machine shop to do it.

Apparently the source of Mayor Bloomberg's problems was a little closer to home than legal sales in Georgia, Virginia, etc.
He's yet to answer for the multiple felonies and RICO violations that he committed during those little escapades.

I am more dumbfounded to learn that there are 35,000 on the force!!!

35,000??? You are kidding right? by my math that is 11,666 +/- available per 8 hour shift...

But everywhere I live it is a 10 or 12 hour shift so more than 11.6k could be on the streets "fighting crime" each shift?

Or is that every man woman and child on his payroll?

I believe the 35,000 are sworn officers. The NYPD is the largest municipal police force in the United States by a large margin. Last I heard, it was larger than the Chicago PD, LAPD, Philadelphia PD and Houston PD (2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th largest) combined.
