NY Gov. Wants my DNA

NY's Gov. Pataki is trying to get a law passed that would make it mandatory for anyone buying a new handgun to submit a DNA sample. I know they're not going to clone me so what is the point aside from political grandstanding. Does anybody know?

Wait till they want to tattoo your Social Security number and a bar code on your wrist.
This crap is going way way to far.

Shooters better figure out what is going on. DNA is about guns and other things. DNA can now be taken off of guns used in crimes or even ammunition. It doesn't take much. Australia already allows the use of DNA taken off of evidence which can come from residue seat, skin particles etc.
Once they have your DNA it is better than fingerprints and yes they could clone you. It is your genetic blueprint.
Once on file it can be accessed by other agencies (don't tell me about privacy laws, I know better I do investigations) and used to tie you to everything from crimes to whatever their imagination can come up with. They now take DNA from all military people and that data base is not nearly as secure as you think. The "theory" was that the DNA was for body identification. Don't bet on that. There is a move to make that data base available for matching with DNA from crime scenes. The DNA code can be broken down to a simple forumula that will allow it to be scanned into information data bases. The social security number as an ID is on borrowed time.
Police now want DNA in some areas for EVERY arrest and it can soon spread to drunk driving cases and shoplifting just like they have done with fingerprints. You are just seeing the tip of the ice berg. It won't get better.

Guys THIS IS SCARY!
I am a jew.. these Natzi wanna' bee's are not getting my DNA...period. Just look at what the Gov. is doing in "The Fedral Violence initiative" linking genetics and Violent "genotypes" for control...I think in their minds anyone who wants a gun is a "Violent type" (White or black, tho' their doing studies mostly on Africans cause no one cares...) EUGENETICS LIVES ON!

Just look at www.Breggin.com take a look at his "Racist" Psychology section... IT ALL ABOUT CONTROL...

I support Senator BOB SMITH... he is a true fighter for ALL our G-D given Freedoms, his home page is www.senate.gov/~smith/ Just take his link to the JUDICIARY page-he is a member of the Judiciary sub-commitee- and see how many bills are introduced to stiffle our gun right each year that he has a hand in stopping!

Also take a peak at other bills, you'll be supprised at what you find! Even Virginia will most likely caese to be a safe haven if the Feds. follow the path they have chosen, and we continue to get JACKBOOTED!

"When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary to break the political bonds......" It was for such actions that both American revolutions were fought. You Yankees called the the second, the Civil War. "Now we are engaged in a great Civil War testing whether this nation, or any nation can so endure......" Federalism and it's taint stains every aspect of our lifes. The very idea that majority rules was never intended by the founding fathers. Franklin said that democracy is two wolves and one lamb voting on who is for dinner. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights defines individual freedoms, and was put there to protect them. Franklin also said that anyone who would trade a little freedom for a little security, deserves neither. Since 1865, when we went from being these united states to the United States, the hand writting has been on the wall. Much liberty has been traded for little security. The right to vote was origionally given to those persons propertied, because as D'Touqueville believed, once the masses figured out that they could vote through political surrogates to confiscate another's property, the experiment would end in failure. We are mighty close now aren't we? As a republic, one man, one vote was never the intention of the founding fathers. Frankly, they did not trust the people to always do the right thing. Thus the Senate and electors to elect the president (just in case the popular election elected Caesar, he could be removed before blood was shed by never being allowed to take the oath). I am certainly not advocating the overthrow of the government, but over such things, governments have fallen. Now that we have a mercenary, standing army in the field who have been ordered to provide their DNA and are doing it willingly, one wonders when the Rubicon will be crossed. Just my 2 cents.

AK9, Your two cent's is greatly appreciated. If only we could excite the masses against such tyrany and vote these bozo's out of office before the fall of the Republic..(it may already be too late?)...

Suggested reading: "Plato's Republic" even if you read it in school, take a look at the section on "Democracy" and it's evolution into a Despotic state...especialy the discription of "the despotic man"...looks Very familliar?

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO... This is not a Human DNA sample they want. Pataki wants "gun DNA" or "ballistic fingerprinting". This is where every gun sold in NY would be fired at the factory before being sold and the markings left on the empty case and bullet from that particular firearm would be stored in a computer database. That way if a gun is used in a crime, they can find out what gun it was by matching the markings on the case or bullet. Of course a criminal could by a new barrel and/or firing pin, rendering this technique useless. They could also use a revolver and dump someone else's brass at the crime scene. Who knows. This is another backdoor to full registration. Every handgun is already registered in NYS and stamped on your permit. (Unless you are a criminal)

------------------
The first step is registration, the second step is confiscation, the final step is subjugation.

Gads....this is the problem when pols co-opt language.

Its not biological DNA they want...its a ballistics match and casing marks match on all new guns.

The saving grace is that even laymen know what DNA is and think that Pataki wants that.
Too bad Pataki is so stupid to invent definitions.....unintended consequences ;)

Idiots like Pataki think in sound bites and term things that grab attention.

DNA is deoxyribonucleic acid, the biological blueprint for all organisms. Pataki thinks it sounds better and more progressive than saying "gun-finger printing"...or ballistics/casing mark matching.

God I loathe morons

Cartridge or Human DNA?
I can tell you, identifying by Human DNA is frought with problems of its own. The do not really match DNA. They give a probablity that yours matches the sample. Everything depends on the integrity and validity of the method of analysis. Even then, even if all seems good, thre are always lingering doubts. The whole thing is easily faked. Faking can be the result of not getting the results expected and wanted or covering up flawed technique, which is, I suspect, more common than most would want to admit.
In science, work of this type tends to be accepted if the results look good. Very few experiments are actually replicated. Most aren't really worth the time, trouble and expense. You do not expect fraud or incompetence in science, but even here it does exist, and since so little is actually questioned by experiment, there is little doubt that much more exists than is admitted. The consequences of accepting this situation in science is actually not very great.
You would be a fool to think that in any thing that is political, the the actual situation would not be far, far worse. This stuff is not the answer to our problems that some might think.
I wouldn't be suprised if gun "DNA" wasn't actually a less treacherous thing.

I don't live in NY, but my reply is, if he want's my DNA, maybe he can take notes from Monica BLewinski!!

Best Regards,
Don

Well MY government wants MY DNA. No, not my gun's DNA, mine. The police have asked for DNA samples of every adult male in the State to be entered on a central computerised database.

That has, rightly, been knocked back. So, their "more reasonable" option is to forcibly take DNA samples only from those who have "contact" with the police. Turns out this means traffic offences, even random breath testing ......

The media are behind the proposal 100%; there is not a word from the civil liberties mob; and the government silence is deafening.

Guess we'd best get used to the taste of cotton wool Q-tips ......

Just another example of how far we've slipped down the gurgler.

Point 1: Gun "fingerprinting" is impossible because guns don't have fingers.

Point 2: Gun "DNA" is impossible because only biological entities have DNA, and guns aren't biological (unless you're a member of the AMA).

Point 3: Bruce, your country seems to be rediscovering its roots. :(

You don't have to own a firearm to attract the DNA grabbers!

The coverage of this latest invasion of privacy is not as widespread as it should be.

Denied medical coverage

Q: I am so furious I can spit! Because of a genetic test at work I have been denied medical coverage by my company. My health is excellent, but the boss maintains that the test I took is a red flag that predicts what I may come down with in the future. Only a few relatives have this genetic abnormality, so my chances of coming down with the disease are minimal. My employer released this genetic information to the firm's insurer without my permission or knowledge. Surely there must be some type of law that says insurers and employers can't discriminate against us because of a genetic abnormality. -Bruce B., Belmont, Calif.

A: Wrong! And unless new legislation is passed, we're all going to be in trouble. As of now, researchers have mapped a mere 30 % of the 80,000 genes found in the human body and they're estimating that each of us has between five and 30 genetic abnormalities. Without new protection, employers and insurers will have plenty of reason to discriminate against us all. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act prohibits insurers from using genetic information to deny people health coverage through group plans, but Congress has chosen not to let the protection apply to the individual insurance market.
