Nuttin Fancy did me wrong.

Hickok45 > Jeff Quinn > Nutnfancy

They all offer something though. Nutnfancy is more into whizbang gear. I'm not into all the run and gun stuff.

His videos are killer long, but it's a different kind of gun video than the other ones on youtube I guess. Better than the guys randomly showing you their gun on their coffee table, pointing randomly at different parts.

He would Duracoat the inside of a barrel if he could.

BUT, don't hate on the guy or call him an idiot. He might just be into "different things" than the rest of us.

Now if he gives unsafe/poor advice, that's another thing.

Oh, and regarding the scope, sounds like the beef is with the scope company for failing to send instructions, not Nutnfancy.

Email Nutnfancy, he may send you a Duracoated copy of the instructions.

The guys that I like are

Sturmgewehre (even though we've argued about testing ammo in water jugs) He is articulate and presents well. His videos are well done, well organized and to the point.

tnoutdoors9 I think he does the best ammo tests out there. His videos have good production value. His videos are well organized, and to the point. He doesn't go off on tangents, which I appreciate.

I like Jeff Quinn, but he seems to focus on the good points of everything he reviews. I sort of think he glosses over some of the shortcomings of some of the weapons he's reviewed.

Hickok45 isn't nearly as well organized as the others mentioned and I do think he tends to get off track, and go off on tangents. Sometimes he's like a kid just video taping himself playing around with guns - not so much a reviewer.

As far as red dot optics.... on my main AR right now... I use an EOtech. I like the 1moa dot.. and the 65 moa circle. I also like the fact that.. it doesn't give me that looking through a tube feelings.. which is strictly personal.

I love the Aimpoint micro's but I was getting ready to buy one when a shooting buddy offered me his never used EOtech dirt cheap.. so I shot it.. liked it.. and kept it.

The cheapest optic I personally would feel ok with is Vortex. Strum did a nice review on them and I have personally used them myself.. with good results. They aren't an aimpoint... but they are a decent low budget alternative to them.

My rule of thumb is to spend as much on the optic as I did on the rifle... with in reason. Obviously AR's are big right now.. and a lot of them are going $1000+ but $600 will get you a top tier optic for one.

If your gun is more of a range toy.. I would say take advantage of the cheaper Vortex ones.

My main AR is used for HD/SD as well as for work, and for fun as well. However I abuse my AR's so I went with a little more higher end optic that hopefully will hold up to the wear and tear.

I don't get the seemingly outright hatred for nutnfancy, he is just a guy on youtube. His stuff is free and he presents good info sometimes. I watch him sometimes, is he the end all be all when it comes to guns? No of course not but its an opinion and if others feel they can do better start making youtube videos lol. And at least to me running and gunning is pretty fun, at least for us young guys. :D

Do any of you guys remember the short lived magazine called gun tests or something like that? it was a 20 page plain paper pamphlet, and they reviewed guns? You should have read the crap they put in.

One issue had a letter of complaint printed. the guy had a ruger red label shotgun that was hitting about 6" to the left with the second barrel, and ruger, after getting it back 3 times, had still not fixed it so that both barrels hit at the point of aim.

He was really tired of having to correct his hold by 6 inches every time he fired his shotgun.

Give a moron a mouthpiece, and you will have you tube material

Shame on anyone who listens to people on the internet and accepts their word as the truth. Think for yourself, for goodness' sake. Get information from multiple sources, and base buying decisions on more than one person's opinion.

In regards to why this thread is still open: I think it's because so many of the mods agree. One even posted saying as much.

Oh. I watched that video on the Lucid HD7... That looks awesome!!! I was wanting to get a red dot with no magnification, that looks like the best thing going right now. I sure as heck am not gonna pay $500+ for an Eotech.

I think that will have to be the one I put on my Saiga conversion when I finally get the $$$ to convert it.

Watched that video on the Vortex SPARC too. Looks like a good sight - and it's the exact same price as the Lucid. I guess it just depends on what style you prefer.

I like the Lucid because it has the different reticle styles and uses AAA battery instead of CR2340.

Ya think? Jeff Quinn is worthless, I've never seen him say a single negative thing about anything. And that is why the gun companies send him things to test and why he gets invited to places to shoot guns. He is the most biased reviewer I have ever seen. It's just pointless to read anything he writes, he loves it ALL!

Nuttinfancy's vidoes may be silly, and he may be full of BS, but he and his pals sure do look like they are having a lot of fun out there in the desert.

Many youtube reviews are fun and informative. Taking one mans opinion on a product is unwise and unnecessary, the internet is replete with sources.

And years ago, Consumer Reports told me a lemon of a car that I bought should be a very good car.

Did I blame the MESSENGER?

No. I was intelligent enough to blame the MANUFACTURER for what was obviously a lemon.

As the saying goes, your mileage may well vary.

And, everyone?

Look to the tone of your messages.

I don't care if he's not a member here or not, if your first inclination is to call him an idiot, or something similar, your second inclination should be to either keep your opinion to yourself, or find a better way of expressing your disapproval.

I think this thread is done because it's simply turning into a bash festival against those who should be our friends in fraternal firearms fancying.

You guys can do better than this.

I know you can.

But if you can't?

Better learn to hold your tongues.
