Number of the beast?

Some take that view. Most do not.

No, 'most' do not, if you mean 'most' people who read the bible, period. But 'most' people also lack the linguistic and historical knowledge to assess an argument like Engels's.

I also would not specifically call this view 'preterist', because that is a theological view that holds that these were 'prophecies' that were (or will be) somehow 'fulfilled'. This is simply a historical analysis that relates the text to events that are sensible given its origin in first-century Western Asia Minor among early Jewish Christians--and does so compellingly.

RFID tags operate at 13.56 MHz - no doubt someone will be knocking out devices that will fry them right quick. Sounds like something you could buy the the parts for rather cheap at the local Radio Shack.

Beardking,

There are more than a few companies working like crazy to get the price down to ten cents or pennies per unit. It's just a matter of time.

Some business articles are saying that 5 cents is the magic number - it has to get there to be worth the money. Wally World has mandated that all of its suppliers use RFID by some date not too far down the road - the exact date escapes me at the moment.

DOD is getting into RFID in a big way, too. I expect we'll see soldiers implanted in a few years.

Quartus,

In addition to the troops - some state and federal workers too.

And I'll bet good money that all "convicted felons" and other "offenders" (like "domestic violence") will be getting them too ;)

Welcome to the New World Oder

LAK, I don't have the reference handy, but that's ALREADY being done in prisons! Oregon is doing a trial on this, IIRC. I just read about it a few weeks ago.

Not if anyone with a lick of sense is in charge. Why in the name of Buddha would anybody want to put a self-finking RF transmission source on a soldier?

"Achmed! Ping those trees! Let's see where the Great Satan's ambush is!"

Tam, you're funny!

;)

They're pretty short range - a matter of feet, not yards. And good idea or not, it IS happening.

There's a possibility I'll be working with the stuff - my clearance papers have been submitted.

Range is a matter of signal strength. However, a good antenna with filters and amplification can extend the range that a chip can be read, in theory. It isn't like they need to read the specific number on each soldier, just that there is a response that fits the American profile.

True, croyance. When you consider that your lowly $20 cellphone from Verizon or Sprint (or any CDMA operator) is powerful enough to actually pull a usable signal OUT FROM UNDER THE NOISE FLOOR with nothing resembling a high quality antenna, I guess we shouldn't rule out picking up RFID from a few hundred yards. If nothing else, it would make for a great perimeter alarm.

Tam, don't get the idea that I disagree with you - it IS absolutely insane.

But it's happening anyway. Get ready. It's coming your way. 2 years? 5? 10?

Don't know, but I know it's coming.

And about five minutes after these implants become mandatory you'll be able to find 'HERF @ Home' kits on the internet for zapping 'em right into slag.

My mind is more at ease now. I thought my '78 4x4 van was the beast, it even has a 666 license plate!!!

Hopefully I won't be driving it through the checkout stand anytime soon.

And when having a non-functional tag is a felony.....

?

Classic. :D

:)

Imagine the possibilities of having one of those chips implanted in your head.
With your complete identification, criminal and financial information contained
therein, along with the discount coupons for whatever store you are visiting.
Who needs wallets? The checkout clerk just scans your head.

cheers, ab
