Nra

Lillysdad, the NRA was one of the supporters of the NFA. How did that help our rights?

And besides, the reason why all the GOA and JPFO can only gripe is because they don't have nearly enough revenue as the NRA, not just because the NRA has more members, but because they tell their members that if they don't send them $25 every month, the 2A will cease to exist.

If money is not sent to the NRA, the 2nd would have ceased to exist long ago. The fact that we still have any semblance of it is ude to the hard work and swet of the NRA.

Yes, I am very aware of the NRAs stance on the NFA. However, I am not narrow minded enough to think that a decision made 80 years ago has any bearing whatsoever today, just as I dont attempt to punish Ruger or Smith and Wesson for things done in the past.

Who needs excuses not to join the nra when there are plenty of good reasons?

As many others have said, why should we give them money to bargin away our rights? Why should I give them money when the only initiative they support in my state is to give non-residents CCW while ignoring the difficulty that Iowans face in getting CCW? They didn't stand up so well against one klinton, what is gonna happen when the one with the cajones gets elected?

So what if the NRA is the largest gun group in America? All that it means is they have a huge bullseye on them for people like mickymoron.

Do your own leg work. Call your reps. Talk to them in person. More importantly, have your friends do the same. Most important of all, talk with those ignorant to firearms. Show them that being an upstanding, resonable person and a gun owner are not mutualy exclusive. Show them that they go hand in hand.

A lot of those saying "but the NRA is the only game in town" seem to feel no urge or urgency to change the NRA either. Why shouldn't they accept liberal gun owners (and they do exist)? Why shouldn't they take a harder line in times and places where it seems clearly profitable (in a political sense)?
rhgunguy is right. It is a person's responsibility to make their voice heard on issues that concern them.

So you start writing letters fellas, alot of them, you'll need to.

With anti-gun clout such Brady C. Stop gun violence, gunguy, MMM, NOW, and many other powerful anti-gun groups.

Your arguement against the NRA is silly, infact, you have no arguement.

The NRA and us 4+million members do have the legal power to fight such political groups, politicians, in congress, senate, court rooms. By the way, we do write letters to our reps.

So, what do you do to protect the 2nd?

From The Five-Minute Handbook in The Firing Line Library:
THE NRA STINKS. So does GOA, SAF, JPFO, and any or all of the
rest of the gun rights organizations. At the same time, all of these
organizations are the best thing since sliced bread. We won't keep
our rights without them. It's normal to love them and hate them at
the same time. Be sure your complaints about them go to the person
who can do something about your problem. Never give up your
membership -- it's much easier to fix things from the inside.
Avoid griping in public -- our opponents love it when we do.
Always handle our dirty laundry behind closed doors. Always.

Unbelievable........

You have got to be off your rocker if you don't know the NRA is the only reason we still have our guns. The NRA may have some problems, but they are by far the most powerful gun lobbyist. Of course, you should join other gun groups, the more the merryer! But if you make any ridiculous excuse not to join the NRA, you are just fooling yourself and not joining at your own 2nd Amendment Rights peril. There would be NO gun control if every gun owner would skip a fast food meal or not see a movie and send the $20 instead to the NRA. There are 4.4 million NRA members which is just a tiny % of all gun owners. Gun control would cease to exist and all 50 states would be Shall Issue if every gun owner would send the NRA $20. There are like 100 million gun owners in the US, do the math. And the reason the NRA has to compromise sometimes is because they do not have the financial resources to fight every battle in this country, they do as much as they can, with what they get. Yes, their constant fund raising is annoying, but they must have funds to fight for our rights. I am not knocking Virginia's VCDL or GOA, they are our brothers! I am just saying, join the NRA, maintain your NRA membership, and send them extra small checks when you can. In addition, write your reps, join GOA, or whoever, that is all icing on the cake! But the NRA membership and financial support is a must or no guns, no CCW, say hello U.N., say hello Mayor Bloomberg, say hello Nancy Pelosi, and say hello Al Gore, Hillary, Bill, Teddy, Johnny, etc......and goodbye .45 ACP!

Your arguement against the NRA is silly, infact, you have no arguement.

Have you read anything that I have had to say? My argument is that the NRA has done nothing for me or my state. Selfish, yes; silly and non-existant, no.

So, what do you do to protect the 2nd?

Again, have you been listening? I teach responsible gun-ownership and saftey to my little brother and SOs little brother and instill in them a love of firearms. I speak with antis(and those ignorant of firearms) that I come into contact with. I have converted some. Got others to conceed that a gun is simply a tool. And pissed off a small minority by using common sense to make their simplistic "guns are bad, so gun owners are bad" look like the pile of crap that it is. Some people will never change, no matter what you say.

If you want to give the NRA money every time they go "BOO", that is your right. I prefer to spend mine on guns and talking to people.

Your arguement against the NRA is silly, infact, you have no arguement.
And I likewise summarily dismiss the validity of anything you have to say.

Well that was productive. Truely an arguement I will keep for other use, it was that effective.

I get to find an organization I agree with and back that. The reason things become the only game in town is because people get suckered into believing that no other options are ever viable.

Which part of "MY RIGHTS ARE NOT THE NRA'S TO COMPROMISE AWAY" don't some of you understand? MY RIGHTS ARE NOT NEGOTIABLE. I WON'T NEGOTIATE THEM AWAY AND I'LL BE DAMNED IF I WILL EVER GIVE SOMEONE ELSE THE MONEY TO BARGAIN THEM AWAY IN MY NAME.

That does more harm that doing nothing. And it is ACTIVELY doing our cause harm.

Some people "harm" our cause by doing nothing..But some of you support organizations that actively do things to subvert our rights.

What do I do to protect my rights? I own guns. I buy more guns. I teach my children to shoot. I regularly (when in the states) take my friends to the shooting range and give them the opportunity to practice and shoot weapons that are new to them. I teach other people the value of firearms ownership and the second amendment.. I do a lot more good than the NRA and a lot less harm.

A few years ago I met a Congressman from the Midwest (I live in the Northeast). He said a big part of the NRA's effectiveness is that in contrast
to most other lobbying groups thet are not a "gimme" lobby, they are a "don't" lobby-don't do this, don't do that, leave us alone. As he noted
the shooters and hunters and collectors in his state don't lobby for grants and handouts, they don't demand publicly funded ranges, grants to buy poor
kids firearms and ammunition, etc., they want the government to leave them alone.

"Which part of "MY RIGHTS ARE NOT THE NRA'S TO COMPROMISE AWAY" don't some of you understand?"

Primarily the part where you don't suggest an alternative to the politics of negotiation. Simply repeating "I REFUSE TO COMPROMISE" is not a well thought out plan of action that will result in improvements in state and local laws.

I do a lot more good than the NRA and a lot less harm.

If you honestly believe this, then I can honestly say this. When we lose all of our gun rights in this nation, we can thank you, and people like you for your help. You were too self important to lend a hand, and thought you could do it alone, when in fact your ranting and raving does far more harm than good.

Of course the NRA is into compromise - they need gun legislation like a fish needs water.

Absolutely wrong.

Without the constant threat of new legislation, how many members would they have?

They would have less, but the "constant threat" of new legislation is NOT the same thing as "needing gun legislation" - they don't need or want it to be passed; they fight it tooth and nail for us; it takes NOTHING that the NRA does for this stupid legislation to constantly rear its ugly head.

I'm not a member

Lemme guess, rick, you're also not a member of any OTHER gun rights group, are you?

and I'm not going to become one until they show me they know where the line in the sand is.

They showed you and everyone else where it was with Katrina. Besides, that's not how you do things. You JOIN, become a VOTING MEMBER, then vote for those who would take the organization in the wrong direction. OR, put your dollars where your mouth is, and contribute toward the competitive group, like GOA, that has a different approach.

No, I'll go ahead and thank those that paid an organization to bargain away our rights. I don't believe myself to be important, but I do belive that I can change peoples opinions about guns and gun owners. I do take offense to being accused of ranting and raving, when all I do is portray gun owners in a positive light to my friends and coworkers.

the organization as a whole is corrupt, and has allowed our rights to be compromised one by one, always giving the insufficient explanation of "it's not good, but hey--it could be worse!"

WE the CITIZENS of America have allowed our rights to be taken away.

We blame the politicians, the political parties, lobbyists and whoever else we can........

When the PEOPLE as a collective come together and remind the Pols who runs the place we will get those rights back.

Conquer and Divide.
