NRA stupidity

Don't know about everyone else, but I have to say that inviting Tom DeLay to the NRA convention as a Keynote speaker was about as brilliant as the whole Terry Shiavo fisaco. Here we have a guy who is under investigation for ethics violations used a family tragedy for political grandstanding and is just a general jackass amongst other things. Yet the NRA welcomes him and even had people strolling around with buttons saying "I'm with Tom DeLay" or something to that effect. And all this after the "From my cold dead hands" speech (yeah, that made us gun owners look like reasonable people.........). Personally I declined to renew my NRA membership when the organization got away from protecting the 2nd Amendment to being another rabid Republican organization and I hope others will too. If we ever except to win people over to realizing the insanity of gun control, we are going to have to do more than grandstand for the choir or inviting sleezy politicians to conventions.

Don't blame me I voted for Willie Nelson.

I don't know much about this mess, something to do with accepting or misusing money to take vacations. Honestly, I would be suprised if he is the only congress member who has done something questionable. I feel that it is just a fuss being raised by Democrats.

Do remember whose member has a questionable death associated with him.

Yeah, let's just give up everytime the democrats and the MSM accuse a republican of something. That's brilliant strategery right there.

The facts are that he is being hounded by a DA with a political agenda and there are democrats (and a socialist) who have done far, far worse things that the press ignores.

When the liberals and press try to raise a stink, you should NOT back down. You should stand up and yell and stick their noses in the mess they tried to create. Backing down and acting apologetic when you've done nothing wrong is a sure way to retreat yourself into political defeat.

I am sure that the invitation went out long before the accusations. Why would you pull away from a Congressman who has supported the 2nd Amendment when he is being attacked by the same people who attack the 2nd Amendment? I thought "Cold dead hands" was a reasonable position. :p

All in all, the NRA is problematic. Heck, the May 2005 "America's 1st Freedom" has a section called "Gun Cabinet: Notable New Products." On page 57, there is the new Leatherman Surge. You have to wonder why the NRA would be highlighting products from Leatherman when Tim Leatherman went public and announced his support for John Kerry in the last election. As you may recall, the NRA supported Bush. So why is the NRA playing so friendly with a company that obviously has different political agendas?

I don't trust the NRA.

im an nra member as i do think they do SOME good, but they dont tell me who to vote for as they seemingly do to alot of thier members. bush may be pro-gun,but hes also pro-illegal immigration and that just doesnt fly with me. i voted for kerry. the nra would have you believe that had kerry been elected, the feds would have been knocking on your door to take your guns away. c'mon get real people! at worst, the "assault weapons ban" would have been reinstated, and bush was on record as supporting that, he just wasnt going to renew it and risk losing the gun votes. it would be civil war II if someone were to try to take peoples guns away.

The NRA needs to speak to a Democrat audience too, and not just pander to the Republican masses.

Many of my Democrat friends support the Right to Bear Arms, but they are turned off by the NRA's unquestioning support of the Republican Party. Their support of Tom Delay turns off a lot of people who would otherwise give their support.

The NRA, with its NRA-ILA, is a lobbying group, not a PAC for Republicans. Their loyalty should be to the Bill of Rights, not the RNC.

And Bush's new attorney general is no friend to gun owners, BTW.

Typical Communist/Democrat/Nazi big lie technique, aidded and abetted by the Front Media, in a classic propaganda attack.

What worries me is the utter lack of education in this country. Most people don't even know what I'm talking about.

Geoff
Who was educated in the 1950's, by the 1960's the Democrats had taken over education and it went to hell. :barf:

Communist/Democrat/Nazi
Most people don't even know what I'm talking about.
Oh, probably because we're to mired in the KKK/Zionist/Muslim conspiracy.

Or am I thinking of the North Korean/Michigan Militia/Ronald McDonald conspiracy? I get so confused, due to my post '50s edumacation. ;)

...but they are turned off by the NRA's unquestioning support of the Republican Party.

The NRA supports Democrats who aren't anti-gun. There were a few NRA-endorsed Democrats on the ballots in my area last year.

However, that doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of Democrats at the national level are anti-gun. An organization isn't going to support a party at large if the majority of its members are the ones pushing for things said organization was created to fight.

Good Point Warbow, But

Good point Warbow, but I'm referring to the Democrat rank and file members, not their national elected officials.

And when you add to that the fact that our so-called conservative president opposed arming pilots and the AWB's sunsetting, one has to wonder why the NRA talked up Bush as much as it did.

And please don't say lesser of two evils.

Aren't the nationally elected officials of a party a good indicator of what the rank and file of that party want?

And when you add to that the fact that our so-called conservative president opposed arming pilots and the AWB's sunsetting, one has to wonder why the NRA talked up Bush as much as it did.

I'm sorry, but that's all there is to say. The bottom line is that Bush is better on guns than Kerry. That doesn't make Bush particularly good for them, but that's just the reality of the situation.

Well, Bush did what Kerry did. Remember that ad of Kerry with a shotgun, saying he is pro gun yada yada yada, WE ALL KNOW Kerry is against guns, assault weapons and the like.

So Bush says he will sign if it's put on his desk, but he won't. Just like Kerry saying he wants you to be armed, but doesn't. DUH!

Don't you all remember when these notorious people voted FOR the weapons ban, and more Gun Control. Hey wait, Feinswine has all of CA under her thumb, why does she need national legislation anyway.

Anyhoo, if Bush came out to liberal America and said "I'm gonna arm pilots" people would think, Guns+Airplane Pilot -(Non LEO Pilot)=Indefinite Doom. Just watch, I think he'll get it accomplished, slowly but surely, just like he didn't push for a weapons ban.

Get a grip, they go for what gets votes, we all know that, and we know that Bush supports guns, and Kerry doesn't regardless of what people say 2 months before election, and it was such a coincidence (sp?) that he said that and election time was around the corner.

It seems that as soon as one of the Republican members (Congress or Senate) gets critized or accused by the press of something, the Republicans just roll over and play dead as do its members. Oh... we don't want to offend anyone..... we are the GOP.... we can handle it. Well guess what, the Republicans do not know how to handle being the GOP. They have a minority party mentality and do not know how to apply the power that the people gave them when they were voted in.

You don't see the Democrats acting this way... they act like they run things. That is half the battle.

The picture above tells the tale with Kerry (and company). You have to prioritize your positions.... then vote for the person that most represents you. I did... and I came out Republican. The world is an imperfect place.

I have no problem with the NRA having DeLay as a speaker at the NRA convention. He's from Texas and the convention was in Texas. Wait until Tom Selick is president of the NRA.

Ok, well................. I'll make sure to keep my eyes open for the Black Helicopters, as I take my monthly peak out of my bunker than flee back underground to eat MRE's until Armagedon arives, or the Machines rise up like on the Terminator movies............

I'm sorry to bust some people's world view but there is not a conspiracy behind everything. I'd be much more worried about Mr. Bush's conspiracy to deprive us of civil liberties than the "vast left wing" "Communist/Democrat/Nazi" conspiracy to get rid of Tom Delay (count me as part of the conspiracy!).

UT Air Assault.

It's not a conspiracy, it's all technique. The Democrats use it at all levels, just like the Communists and Nazi's.

If you watch the Talking Head Shows on Fox and CNN, the Democrats are talking the lie, in almost identical words. Typical big lie technique, right down to the "Buzz Word" of the week.

The line is much more important than the question, or other comments, they spout the line no matter what anyone else says, it provides proof of the technique.

Now, if you are still a registered Democrat, you are either a fool, or one of those "voters" honest elections would eliminate.

Geoff
Who has been victimized by Democrat control of the voting in Cuyahoga County (Cleveland area) Ohio.

It may have been "tacky" to have Delay as the keynote speaker, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it "stupid". He's already been crucified by the media, but as far as I'm aware, it hasn't been proven that he's done anything wrong. As for the NRA, they support my gun rights. They'd have to openly endorse Hitler or Satan for me do disavow them. The squeaky (and rich) wheel gets the grease on Capitol Hill. Considering how loudly the VPC & Brady campaign are squeaking, the NRA has to be pretty loud & play the political game - I don't think they should be blamed for that. As long as they're working in my interest as a gun owner, more power to 'em.
