NRA members

Life member for about 10 years, but I recently took their decal off of my truck window. I'll leave it at that.

As long as NRA members believe the NRA is doing a good job, they dont want to hear any negative conversation

Sure - that's confirmation bias in the social cognition trade. Same with political parties, religions and relationships.

I sometimes write to folks I know there with ideas. Or I write comments when I can when the NY Times says something silly about guns. Will the Times listen - NO - those crumb-bums are just like the NRA!

However, change is possible. I would change the NRA to follow the ideas and theory of Glenn. However, I'd rather make some lunch, now.

As long as NRA members believe the NRA is doing a good job, they don't want to hear negative conversation

Don't know if I 100% agree with that assessment.

If a person has negative/logical/constructive criticism on most any topic, (and this is important) backed by documented facts, most people are willing to openly discuss about anything. That's how organizations learn from mistakes they make and become more effective.

On the other hand, to sit and ridicule without facts, I wouldn't expect many to just go along with that program.

On the political side, if the NRA doesn't endorse our favorite candidate, should we not believe in the NRA simply for that reason? Remembering, the NRA is in business to promote and has a long history of fighting for our 2nd Amendment rights....and yes, there have been political candidates in the past the NRA endorsed which didn't suit my fancy to a tee.

A couple things I get tired of with the NRA:

1. The monthly phone calls wanting the contributions. I just can't afford to give every time the phone rings. Course the NRA is no worse at this then the Veterans Administration or many other organizations operating on mostly donated money.

2. The great amount of junk- mail literature I'm sent.
IMO, take the money I contribute and better use it for fighting the anti's in Washington rather then sending me this literature....then there's the bombardment of e-mails.

These things I can deal with cause I feel what they(NRA) does for me as a gun owner, far out-weighs these couple of things.

These forums are handy, and helpful. However, I have other hobbies, too. :D

Try this:

Q: How can I reduce the amount of mail I receive from the NRA?
A: Simply email us at membership@nrahq.org or dial 800-NRA-3888 and request to be placed on the "Do Not Promote" list. This will significantly reduce the amount of mail you receive without affecting important mailings, magazine service, or your membership renewal

Let us know if it still works.

Mr. Meyer's, you are very funny -- thanks!

NRA is not perfect. And there are others I've belonged too to myself: GOA, CCRKBA...

Don't dimminish what Obama and his "Justice Department" was doing -- smuggling guns to Mexico to "prove" "assault weapons" originate here (they got caught lying that 90% come from US in the first year of the Administration) and need to be banned here. And the ban won't be limited to "cosmetic" diferences next time 'round. If NRA's confronting that makes you quit, that's a darned shame.

I'm still a member of the United States, and I don't agree with everything they do. I might as well belong to the NRA.

I'm patron member. I signed up 'cause I thought I was getting a free bottle of Patron. :D

A lot of people forget that the NRA is not just a political organization. Their main objective from the get-go was to help bring new shooters in through training programs and the shooting sports. (very important to the political movement as well, I don't care where you stand) The NRA-ILA is the political wing, and I think some idealists take themselves a little too seriously. To unite four million people, you're going to have to make a few concessions.

If you have more extreme beliefs than the NRA, that's great. You may almost be as extreme in your beliefs as I am. More than likely not, but you might be close. Support the GOA or SAF, along with your local organizations. But join the NRA, too, and build some clout. United we stand, divided we fall.

My signature states my thought on the NRA.:D

The above keeps the over paid postal workers on the job moving snail mail. Lets call it good junk mail;)

Life Member... I don't agree with everything the NRA does or supports, but without them, we would not have a voice.

I've had City Board Members leave an active session (literally get out from behind their dais and leave the public meeting) to step into a hallway to come speak to us just because I was there with an NRA Board Member despite that they were anti-gun! This is power, and it is important.

Life member since the early '70's. Currently a Patron. I also support the NRA/ILA when I can. Dad was a member, my son is as well.

Who else is defending gun owners/hunters? Maybe a few small groups but all together they don't add up to the NRA.

Mr. Meyer; sure, but National Public Radio is so pro-gun biased that's to be expected. They always lean to the right, seem to look for and exploit pro-gun reporting, and are always subtley advocating the Second Amendment and related topics and issues in their stories.

Oh. Wait a minute... Did I get this backwards and so that is even more astounding?

Have been an annual member of the NRA for 3 years now, yes all the junk mail and emails do get old, but like so many others have said, where would the second amendment be without the NRA.

I'm a member. Have been for 20+ yrs. Once I was twice a member. I reupped before it was due and ended up with two memberships. Took a while to straighten that out.
They may not always be right but they are never wrong and without them we'd be lost.
