I bought a 3 year membership last month. I also sent in a $50 donation. :D I plan on renewing my membership when it expires for a 5 year membership. It feels good being part of the #1 lobbying group for gun owners, and every little bit helps. You have to "fight for the right".:D

It is important that every gun owner BE a member of the NRA and contribute $25 a year to its lobbying arm (NRA-ILA).

Beyond that, though, you get a better bang for your buck by supporting your local state-oriented, pro-gun lobbying organization. Most likely it IS NOT the NRA-affiliated "state association" that runs shooting competitions. It will be an independent organization with a name like like Michigan United Conservation Clubs, Unified Sportsmen of Florida, or Minnesota Gun Owners Civil Right Alliance (CCRN's parent).

Yearly membership

There was a time when I thought becoming a life member was a good way to support the 2nd amendment. Today, I think that making a membership decision on a yearly basis is prudent. Why? Because it allows me to vote with my wallet and to determine if they are making good use of the dollars I contribute. Some waffling and compromise makes me think twice about renewing or sending anything extra to the ILA. On the other hand, if they do a good job, IMO, I am willing to pay more and more often with multiple yearly contributions.

Not Me!

I got my tail in a crack in NY a couple of years ago, and contacted NRA before I left the state.

Three months later I paid the fine and a grand for an attorney, lost my gun, and have a criminal record...without so much a return phone call from them. In the mean while, I got numerous "Urgent Poll's" that needed to be sent to my senator/representative....with my $100 check.

But no phone call.

Why am I paying for them to defend my rights, when I need defending, I pay for that out of my pocket.

What have you seen them do?
The NRA left me high and dry

"I got my tail in a crack in NY a couple of years ago, and contacted NRA before I left the state.

And just where does the NRA promise you free legal services? Or even "pre-paid" ones?

If you think the NRA exists to bail out each member every one of them screws up, you are severely deluded.

NRA Membership

Yes, I am a Life Member. Instead of upgrading my membership, I just helped my wife upgrade HER membership to Life Member.

Looks like there is about 16% of the members on this board that are letting the rest of us carry the fight for them. :o

I have been watching and participating in this fight to preserve 2A rights since the mid 1960's and the NRA has been the ONE CONSISTENT organization that has led and continues to lead this battle.

C'mon, Guys & Gals, ALL OF US should AT LEAST be NRA Anual Members! :D

What else is new?

"Looks like there is about 16% of the members on this board that are letting the rest of us carry the fight for them."

Typical group performance; the 80/20 Rule applied to gun owners.
