Not your (NRA) America Anymore....

Nice postulation OP

Your postulation that NRA members are rural bumpkins is perhaps wishful thinking on your part.

I live in an affluent suburban area. All NRA members I personally know are attorneys, executives and business owners. I don't personally know any uneducated rural members.

To paraphrase Twain, "Reports of the NRA's death have been greatly exaggerated".

Had you been bright enough to research yourself, you would be aware that the NRA added over 1/2 million new members in the few months following Sandy Hook. Sadly for you and your ignorant ilk, this is an indicator of significant mind share among people who aren't members.

Back when I was a real person, I flew sailplanes out of Moriarty airport which is just east of the
Manzano mountains & Albuquerque.

The sailplane owners/pilots in the club were "overrepresented" by the likes of folks from the Air Force
Weapons Lab at Kirtland, the FAA, and the nuclear physics types from Sandia and Los Alamos Nat'l Labs.

Early mornings before flying we'd we'd casually meet as one of the "colorful" local Moriarty restaurants for
breakfast and hotly debate world issues of politics, diplomatic histories, practical science, philosophy,
the state of the nation, and turn of the tide in Europe and the Middle East... and of course Constitutional Law.

One old grizzled guy stood out as having the single most balanced education and experience in all
these areas as the conversation ebbed and flowed.

He was a plumber.

'nuff said

I didn't read this entire thread, but the NRA in my opinion has it's hand forced by the anti group. It plays out both ways without any middle ground. I will vote for my gun rights as needed.

As far as the plumber being the smartest guy in the room. He went for the money with the education that he was provided. I had a plumber swap out a toilet a few months ago. $275.00 flat rate for 30 minutes work, and a "trip charge" to the house. I provided the throne.:( It was far from what we were quoted over the phone.

Dude, you got ripped off. A toilet is one of the easiest fixtures to install. No cutting or soldering. Just plug and play.

And I don't think the NRA is cowtowing to the anti crowd at all.

What is cowtowing?

What I was saying was that there is no middle ground with gun control. It has turned into an all for or all against battle.

The throne - I didn't know if the seal was lead or not. I am not a plumber. I didn't have tools to braise a new stop as it was locked up. They also had to set studs/lags in epoxy in the floor. It still went too fast for the price charged. What upset me was being lied to by the dispatcher. It was late, nobody else was available........ Bad day all around.

Here's a thought, without gun control would the NRA be anything more than a shooter education organization? Would it still require execs making six figures? Does the NRA really want across the board gun rights, or do they benefit more from the constant gun control attempts?

The enemy of mine enemy is my friend.
And right now the NRA is the most effective offset to the incredible PACs and outside bag men directing/funding the anti's.
Given the hate & threat the NRA and its people are target of... money well spent.

Again, my 2
