Not so concealed carry--the fanny pak (Rant)

TBeck, agree with your comments. I carry a fanny apck more often than not, due to the amount of equipment that travels with me off duty: a light, cuffs, pager, a spare mag plus the gun, badge, et al. It is the easiest way to carry all of that mess, wearing it on the belt would really raise eyebrows. Only two people questioned me, one was a doctor who just got his CCW, the other was my father in law who wanted to know why I wore a fanny pack, insinuating that I must not be manly to just have a wallet.

FWIW, my favorite fanny pack is the Bianchi "Top Secret." It's secure, well-made, does not look like a gun pack (no rip cord, no vertical zippers, etc.), and comes in green and navy blue as well as tactical black. It allows me to carry items in addition to the gun.

The trade-offs are that access is slow, and even the large-size pack may not be large enough for a full-size service gun.

Fed168, I feel your lower back pain. As a regular citizen I get away with a gun, spare mag, folding knife, wallet, and keys. That's enough weight for me. :)
