North Korea threatens a pre-emptive attack against US troops

This is nothing new. Back when I was in the service over 20 years ago Korea was considered the country most likely to explode on any given day.

Since then the conditions have improved IMHO due to 1) SK army continues to be well trained and well motivated but NK army has progressed in its deterioration to being a slave army. 2) China has developed more dependence on the US as a trading partner to the point where they would have a pretty significat recession if suddnely the US no longer wanted to buy their manufactured goods. They have much more incentive now than 20 years ago to stop NK. You will notice we've gone yet another decade without China taking over Taiwan. Same reason.

Meek and Mild:

Were you ever stationed in Korea? I was there for two visits; 78-79, B company, 1/31st Infantry (M), Camp Casey/Howze, and then from 80-81, Battery C, 2/71st ADA (IHAWK), Camp Irwin (next to Pobwonri).

In the first year, I remember patrolling in the "Z" and seeing that huge NK flag, over Kaesong-dong, and just looking at the minefields on the MDL.

The second time, we had a MiG overfly our site with two ROK F4's in hot pursuit. It was actually kinda cool!

Powderman, no I was in the air training command and on alert status for a couple of years at one point. In the years before China became a 'trading partner' Korea was always considered a powder keg, even more so than the mideast and central america. We had contingency plans to move folks around like checkers on a board and could set up brand new air bases anywhere in the world within just a couple of days, complete right down to the laundry and barber shop.

The guys who had been in Korea said they loved it once they got over the eerie feeling of being in a stalemated war zone. One guy had a "63 chevrolet rebuilt to look like a 30's style street rod, for a total cost of about $500. Lots of the troops brought back Korean brides, really bright women, many of whom have since opened businesses or have become professionals such as nurses and schoolteachers. IMHO our relationship with south Korea has been a win-win situation all around.

Every time that the N. Koreans need additional food or fuel, they start with the saber-rattling. The use of WMDs is nothing new, nor is our stance. Unless you've been hiding in your bomb shelter since the 1950's we've always carefully reserved the right to pre-emptive use of nuclear weapons.

Bingo

N Korea

I've got a nephew that has just been transfered back from S Korea to N Carolina. That's where they redeploy to Iraq, so the situation couldn't be that bad, or else it is another mistake by the "administration". Iran. China keeps on saying the same thing all the time, and the way they are making oil pacts with all the south american countries, this all tells me Communism never died. Here's a quote from V.I. Lenin: First we will take Eastern Europe,Then the masses of Asia. Then we will encircle the US, which will be the last bastion of capitalism. We shall not have to attack. The US will fall like a ripe grapefruit into our hands. We are all going be called up if that happens.

So many things can happen that no one can tell where it will lead. The world seems to be going crazy and not much future to look for as Americans lose their standard of living. Korea is just one nail in the coffin along with Iran, Syria and China. Together they could finnish off our economy sending America in a depression that makes us unable to wage war even in our own defense.

If we are attacked and people refuse to be drafted for the nations defense then we are lost and the life for those traitors will be under the rule of whoever attacks us.

War with the U.S. is not an option for N. Korea; the results would be disastrous. Nothing new here...same old N. Korean bluster.
