Non Resident CCW

Hi, I have my CCW permit and want to find the easiest, cheapest state for a Non resident CCW permit. There is only one state that I need it for. I thought I'd found PA, but I'd have to apply in person.

Thanks, Any help will be greatly appreciated!:)

Thanks TXAZ I have, just trying to get out cheaper than $60.It will probably be Utah or Az if I can't find it for less. PA wasn't but $20...but it would cost more to drive it! Lol.

Tom I'm in SC and I'm happy with the states I'm allowed except one bordering state- Georgia!! GA does not recognize SC either....must be some bad blood there! Lol. I have yet to understand it!:D

My SC permit is great for my normal extent of travel except that one state. So that's why I'm not wanting to pay a lot just for one dang state!! :D

But Florida is good for seven years, where most (if not all) of the others is good for five years. $112 / 7 = $16 per year.

And I don't think SC recognizes PA anyway. I have PA, FL, NH and CT. When I drove to FL several years ago, my fuzzy recollection was that I had nothing that covered me in SC.

I haven't done a tabulation recently, but at the time I got PA and FL, the FL permit was recognized by approximately 32 states, and PA was recognized by twelve. That's a significant difference.

There's some incompatibility between the way Georgia and South Carolina issue permits, and it's always been a sticking point.

The others are correct. Georgia will honor a Florida nonresident permit.

Tom that is true. I guess I'll either get a Utah or Arizona permit, I was just trying to get out cheap since GA is my only problem. I shoulda got my NH permit while it was only $20!!:)

You are going to have to travel to PA to get their permit. PA no longer accepts Utah, Florida, or Arizona.

Not all counties in PA will issue a non-resident permit. I just got mine in Erie. Potter County and Center County will issue them, too. If you need a different county I suggest you call first to make sure they'll issue it to you. I drove almost three hours to Erie and spent about ten minutes in the sheriff's office (I had already filled out and printed the application). Cost was $20.

try Virginia..non resident ..buts its 100.00....contact Virginia State Police I think it is..they will send you a fingerprint card and application..have local LE do your prints..send your print card, application and copy of you CCW and 100.00 and they will send you a non resident ccw

Thanks guys, I guess I'll have to travel to PA to get them. I hope I can renew online.

firewally1966, I shouldn't have to be fingerprinted again since the guberment already had them on file.

More specifically, PA no longer accepts non-resident permits/licenses from UT, FL or AZ.

Thanks for correcting that. For anyone not living in those three states (there are a lot of us that have two or three of those states' permits), it makes no difference. My wife is from PA and we travel so I thought those three would do the job. A month after I got them Nevada dropped AZ (which is why I got AZ). Then PA dropped FL and recently UT. My understanding is that this is being driven by the state AG and the intent is to not accept non-resident permits at all. Apparently she is putting pressure on sheriffs to not accept applications from out of state, which is why you should call ahead so you don't waste your time.

You cannot renew PA by mail. State law requires that your photo AND signature be captured electronically directly into their system at the time of renewal. The sheriff's office does the work, but they are connected directly into a central server in Harrisburg and the digital images go directly to the state. Unfortunately, that means no more mail-in renewals.

That's a HUGE inconvenience for out-of-staters, and it may be intentional. The current PA Attorney General (ms. Kane) is virulently anti-gun. It is she who has canceled and then renegotiated the reciprocity agreements so that PA only recognizes resident permits from most of the states they recognize. She may have enough allies in Harrisburg to have slipped in this change in the laws with the intention of reducing the number of visitors wh can legally carry a firearm in her state.

Ms. Kane is reviled by the RKBA advocates in PA.

Well that eliminates PA. I think I'll just forget it and take my chances like have been and hope my luck holds out! :D

Thanks for all the help

This can be taken two ways. If you mean carry concealed and not get caught, I'd advise against. It sounds like you travel to PA on a regular basis, so just find a sheriff's office that will do this and you'll have it for your next trip. Mine came in six days.

AG's have the right to negotiate reciprocity. I doubt any laws changed. If the law changed then the change would have happened all at once, I'd think, and it didn't. But she is responsible and I've read that she's trying to persuade sheriffs to not issue non-resident permits. She won't be in office forever, so the next AG can change reciprocity back to normal.

No I don't carry there on purpose, but there have been times when I crossed the state line and totally forgot and every time I've been on my motorcycle!! When I'm on 4 wheels it's always stored where it's legal.

I don't know why you assume I'm in PA on a regular basis. No, it's a 12 hour+ drive for me and see PA is a border state for you which is great. I mostly travel the southeast and also have family in Florida which is a pain everytime I go through Georgia! :)

It was your first post: "Hi, I have my CCW permit and want to find the easiest, cheapest state for a Non resident CCW permit. There is only one state that I need it for. I thought I'd found PA, but I'd have to apply in person."

You mention PA, so some of assume you need it for PA. What state do you need it for then?
