No SKS Love here?

My Chinese Type 56 Carbine and it's Egyptian Cousin... A Rasheed Carbine. The Type 56 was made in 1968 at the /26\ Factory and the Rasheed was made in 1967. The Type 56 was imported by Navy Arms in the 1980s and added a small scope rail. I believe it's for the Chinese Type 89 Scope. Also pictured is my Soviet SKS Carbine produced by the Tula Arsenal in 1953.

I find these little rifles to be great all around guns. You can use them for self defense, hunting, and target shooting. Of course the Rasheed isn't a SKS by design. But it has been called the Cadillac of SKS Carbines. Also another damn good little rifle is the Czech Vz52/57. They were originally chambered in the Czech 7.62x45mm but in 1957 had them rechambered to 7,62x39mm. Another fine semi-auto ten shot carbine with side folding bayonet.

I'd like to get one for the collection.

Nice collection you have going there. I like my SKS. It is my do all carbine. It goes plinking, hunting and serves as my HD gun. At least the HD til I get another 12ga.

I think a lot of people underrate the sks. I think they are a tad more accurate than an AK. Beside all those guys that think they need a 30 round mag must be trying to compensate for something.

I love my Russian Tula SKS. I just got it about 2 weeks ago. Of all my rifles, it's quickly becoming my favorite one for sure!

I love my Chicom SKS

- Get a tech sight
- Get a spring loaded firing pin
- Get a narrow front sight

They are good to go

Mine is a blast to shoot

(1-2 inch groups at 50 yards)

Where are you going to find this for 300 ish?

They're plenty of SKS love, but too many folks love dolling them up with Tapco stocks and receiver cover scope mounts that just aren't ever going to hold zero.

I quite enjoy my SKS, it's a fun rifle, and surprisingly accurate.

As for a thick cover hog rifle, though, I think I'd have to prefer one of the thumper AR-15 rounds (.458 SOCOM, .450 Bushmaster, .50 Grendel). No doubt about the SKS being much cheaper to buy and shoot though.

I paid $79.00 for my SKS back in the day. Like the AK everybody ought to have one. The government should give one of these to every person who can legally own one with a 1000 rnd case of ammo plus some marksmanship training...lol

My SKS is good to go as is. The sights really dont need any improvement as they would work good for a moving target.

I turned my nose up on the SKS back when they were going for $69.00, and sold my Romanian made one when bitten hard by the "black rifle" fever.

I could kick myself in retrospect, wish I had kept it, and purchased bundles of those SKSs and AKs back when they were dirt cheap.:(

Love my chinese SKS as well. I bastardized it with an aftermarket stock and mag, but it's a great gun. I can shoot 4'' groups at 100 meters and mine has been 100% reliable. It's tough to beat that for the price...

I'm one of those folks who put the cheap ramco folding stocks on both of mine... one is a shorter barreled... both have 20 round non detachable mags.... after looking at your collections... I think I might put the wood stocks back on at least one of them.

I paid $100 for my new old stock Chicom SKS in the early '90s and $100 for a case of commie ammo. They used to have them stacked in big wooden boxes at gun shows, felt like I was in an '80s action movie buying guns in some back warehouse. :D I got my folding poly stock and 30 rd mags just before Bill Klinton and Co banned them for a time.

I've had many years of trouble free enjoyment. Never a jam. Decent accuracy, although not really worthy of a scope (certainly not an expensive scope!). It's a combat gun, simple, super tough and packs a good close-to-medium range wallop. You could throw it down and the mud and it would just glare back at you and continue to shoot on command. :)

And for zombie apocolypse scenarios or flash mob types-----there are OCEANS of cheap 7.62x39 ammo out there...

Love my /144\ SKS. Great trigger & holds 2" groups at 50yds, standing, unsupported, with either Wolf Military Classic or PRVI Partizan 123gr SPs.

I loved selling the SKS I bought off a friend as a favor and getting most of my money back....+ an old post '64 30-30 he threw in.

I love mine, but never shoot it, no clue what or how old it is, I bought it 20 years ago when they had large barrels full of them at the gun store for cheap < $90 :D

I love my Yugo but can't really pin down why. I had a Kivari match trigger job done to it so the trigger is awesome. Added a fiber optic peep sight and refinished it.

It's not real accurate but it's the funnest 2X4 I own that will put lead downrange.
