"NO NEW TAXES" - Part Two

abruzzi-Bush owns a gun. Ex-fighter pilot Bush goes dove hunting every chance he gets and stopped campaigning during the season to do so. He supports INSTANT background checks at gunshows and the VOLUNTARY use of triggerlocks. He also stated that we have enough gun laws. And being a senior member of a message board doesn't make you a gun owner or a supporter of the Bill of Rights.

Personally, I'd feel even better about Bush if he _didn't_ own a gun. His statements in the last few weeks, including the debates, have made me feel more comfortable. If Feinswein or Schumer manage to get the media behind them for background checks at gun shows and the bill passes despite some Republican opposition, will Bush sign it? Probably. If the anti's call on Bush to advance their agenda will he do it? I sincerely doubt it. There is the difference.

But let us never forget who got us to the point where defending the Second Amendment and RKBA has become a political millstone: gun owners.

CUT TO THE CHASE.....
Our next president will be Bush or Gore. Whom do you prefer??

You have to be there when it's all over. Otherwise you can't say "I told you so."

Better days to be,

Of course I didn't answer the question of whether Bush owns a gun. I didn't know if he did or not. Besides, I forgot it had been asked--frankly, I didn't think it was the most important question asked, and I think I answered the important ones pretty well.

But, since you ask, the answer is that IT DOESN'T MATTER whether Bush owns a gun. FEINSTEIN owns a gun, for God's sake! So does Don Perata. Bill Clinton claims to be a gun owner AND a former NRA life member whenever it's convenient--and he had no problem admiring the nice "duck rifle" he was handed when he pretended to go duck hunting for the cameras. Carl Rowan shot those kids with his son's gun, which he was apparently keeping in the house at the time. Sylvester Stallone and Spielberg, both antis, are apparently shooters. The common thread is that they own guns; they just don't want any of us to own guns.

I DON'T CARE if a politician owns guns. All I care about is whether he or she understands that I have the right to mine.

Thanks, Don. That's the best answer anyone could have given. If someone naturally thinks that Bush is lying then nothing Bush or the people on this board can say will convince them. I know someone at work who hates Bush because of his "Daddy". Yet the man's father was a drunk, moonshiner and knocked up his wife so many times[18] she died in her early forties. The last time he saw his father was at his mom's funeral. Hatred can be pretty weird.

Well said, Don Gwinn. You hit that one out of the park.

Jarhead out.

“Are we at last brought to such a humiliating and debasing degradation, that we cannot be trusted with arms for our own defence? Where is the difference between having our arms in our own possession and under our own direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defence be the *real* object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?”
--Patrick Henry, speech of June 9,1788

I'm glad to hear Dubya has firearms and uses them...even if it's not my business or anybody elses.

His father was in the congress in 64. He ran and lost for the Senate in 60 (?) and again in 70. He was asked in 92 why he hadn't supported the civil rights act of 64 and he gave a long, round about answer about the value of education. he was there. if somebody insists I'll go dig up his political bio.

Who would I prefer. McCain, and not for RKBA reasons. Just the man. If stuck with Gore and Bush I'll take NOTA - none of the above. We have a bizarre system which somehow insures survival of the unfittest. I honesty don't get it. We'd be better off with Cheney and Lieberman at the top of the tickets. And better off if McCain and Bradley had beat Bush and Gore.

Will one of these two get it - yes. Which one will be better for us (regardless of the touchstone used to decide) is a shot in the dark. Period.

abruzzi,
Yor a new face?!?!?!? WhereTF did that notion come from? Unless your a different person from the abruzzi I've been reading for the last year and a half, I have zero clue as to how that rumor got started.

As far as no new taxes go, well GW Sr. did step into that one, and was taken to task 4(3?) years later by the media, but so far GW Jr. hasn't said anything quite as stupid that could haunt him. Bush isn't my ideal candidate, however, I find myself in total agreement with him on more issues than any other viable candidate. I hate having to vote for either "Junior",(why can't they have a rule that says if you run for office, then no one in your family can ever run for office?), but the sad reality is that this is a 2 horse race w/nothing running to show.

I still maintain that it is not fair to compare GW with his father. An example: a neighbor of mine, a Czeckoslovakian expatriate, told me about an invitation he and his father had to a dinner in the 1930's.
The invitation was mandatory, and the speaker was Adolf Hitler. At the dais were Joseph Kennedy and his wife. Does that mean JFK was a Nazi?

Judge GW on his own merits and, if you don't like him, don't vote for him. Just be aware of the consequences of your actions.
