NJ: Get an armored truck job just to get a NJ CCW?

Wheres the NRA on this anyway? I thought they were the big "gun rights" organization .

The NRA is only interested in sending rudely worded letters to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

I mean, I'm a member, but that's a really crappy way to convince someone to see things your way.

I was a security guard back in the day in Columbus Ohio and Cops were very friendly and had lots of professional courtesy for me. Maybe in NJ they're harsher and have no courtesy.

Only the dumbest police academy rejects would possibly sign up to drive an armored car.
Mr Sturgeon, that is quite insulting. I drove armored trucks for 8.5 years, hence the screen name. I can also assure you that I when went to the Academy after my armored trucking days, I did not flunk out, but graduated top in my class. I have been with my Dept for over 9 years now. I had a great deal of fun driving armored, if not making a ton of money, and worked with some top flight people and some total rocks, same as any other job.
On the side, I do believe it is legal for armored trucker crew to carry across state lines while on duty in thier vehicle for work purposes only. Our Armed Security Guard certificate meant nothing other than we were OK to work there.
BTW, LEOs liked us quite a bit after North Hollywood - my company had three armoreds assisting during that shootout.

Why not just find a good lawyer and challenge the "rules"?

You'll be a hero if you win, then again, you'll be hated if you lose. Either way, your be some sort of "famous" when its done.

Actually, if you fight hard, I think you'll be a hero to many, win or lose. A cause is won by chipping away.

That and taking your money...

The biggest changes coming down the pipe are not from the NRA, wonder what the investment return looks like for each ?

http://www.saf.org/

I refuse to be part of the commuting rat race on 78 and 287 (or anywhere else really). If I move out of state, its not gonna be PA a few miles from NJ. I am planning on sending my FL paperwork in two weeks...so at least I can carry in PA.

If I were you, I would leave NJ, and never return. Forget Mass as well. Vermont, Maine, NH, all have pro-gun laws and you can carry with little or no hassle.

relocation not feasible

Unless taking care of aging parent, relocation always feasable. Will be costly but....?

+1 to ArmoredMan. Mr. Sturgeon, do you realize how many armed guard are in this country? All of them are pro gun people just like all of us. No reason to throw insults around, especially to like minded people.

I just moved to Charlotte NC 2 yrs ago from NJ best thing I ever did . Down here you can open carry w/out a permit and obtain a permit to conceal if you want. I can sling an AR on my back and walk around not that I would though . NJ sucks you have to be a victim first and have a continuing threat. If they would just write a law saying you cant hurt someone while robbing them or write a law saying you cant rob a bank with a gun then we would be safer . O wait we already do hmmm so ***.

Criminals prefer unarmed victims.

Armored Trucks

I had 25 years as an LEO when I retired and I went to work for Brinks because I had always wondered what it would be like to be on one. I worked in Chattanooga, Tn., Atlanta, Ga and always as an armed driver-trainer. After I had worked there for 3 years they asked me if I would transfer to Boston because I wasn't tied down and they needed trainers. I dorve a truck in Boston for 4 months. They would not let me carry until I got a Mass license and that was taking a while so I quit. A person needs to be crazy to drive one in Boston...and you would have to be crazy and stupid to do it unarmed. They tell you that their lawyers will cover you if you have to shoot somebody but I never saw them stand up for any employee. No bennies.

As some have posted previously, a NJ carry permit issued to an armored security guard is valid only while on duty. That means you can't even carry going to or from work, let alone carry generally. The permit becomes invalid if you quit the security job and and only reactivates if you take another security job.

LEOSA does not cover armored car guards; they are private individuals, not law enforcement agents of government entities. Interestingly enough, though, the federal law that protects armored car guards to carry interstate while on duty was the model used to draft LEOSA.

NJ's carry permit is only issued to security personnel, retired law enforcement residing in NJ, or to those who are somehow able to convince a police chief and superior court judge that they have a "justifiable need." It is not a CCW per se, since the statute does not require it to be concealed.
