night sights: a waste of money

I thought about not replying to this due to the stupidity of it's very nature.
But then i thought we all have our own opinions about various subjects.
I'm hoping the original poster posted this as a matter of opinion.
If not, what an UN-informed individual. My only hope this person done not own a gun.

Any thing an individual can purchase that helps to improve or other wise aids in defense of ones self or family is money well spent.

i never understood them either (even though i have them on my cz)

seems it would be better if the bad guy had one of those neon reflector things around his head and heart.

Whats not to understand? To quote myself (from an earlier post)- Night sights simply aid in weapon trajectory management/orientation under low light conditions. They are not meant for target identification or even target acquisition (in the truest sense of the word).

mine sure are comforting keeping watch over me whilest I sleep from across the room. Were they not there, I would have a tough time finding it in the dark w/o flashlight

You keep your handgun across the bedroom? Seriously?

In fact, if your favorite personal compact auto or 2" stubby doesn't naturally point and shoot the 'five' close in, then you own the wrong hand gun.

my guns never point or shoot themselves, in fact I'd consider that pretty unnatural, btw is a stubby anything like a snubby?

I just want to know where I can get one of those self pointing handguns.

You've never owned one of these? A shame. I figured everyone has at one time owned a little pistol just naturally pointed when it slipped into your hand. Snatched from your back pocket or from under your pillow, there's simply no better feeling than having it meld with your hand and point to the same spot as your finger .-. without any regard for sights.

For some, it's that favorite little stubby revolver. For me (and a lot of other people, I believe) it is the natural ergonomics of the 1911, especially its 3/4 version, the .380 Government or Mustang.

waste of money

I agree. I can not see the sights on them in the day light.... So it would be a waste of time for my old eyes. But I can see the regular 3 dot sights.

The night sights work, and are usable, 24/7. It doesnt have to be dark to make use of them.

I prefer the three dots too, and have used them since before they were "lit". Now, I always have the dots, bright light, low light, against a dark background during the day, or in the darkest, pitch black of night, or anywhere in between.

Hey, if you dont like them, dont use them, no one is forcing you to. For the approximately $6 a year a set they cost me, I dont figure I'm out that much, especially for what I gain. I've wasted more on things with less gain.

I have night sights on all of my pistols except my old BHP. I like them in low light but find them marginal at best in daylight. Odd, but I much prefer a gold-bead to trijicons in the day.

That's your opinion. I don't share it.
That was about as charitable a response as any, and was far more restrained than most.

To the OP... when you burst onto the scene with a location that reads "homeless" and a total post count of five or so, and then "rant on" as if you are the know-all and be-all...well, you get what you deserve. (Not knowing the difference between "rational" and "rationale" doesn't help much either.)

If you would prefer fact-based reporting, go back and read the link posted in post #51. If that doesn't at least cause you to reconsider your position, you are likely closed-minded beyond hope.

Its a free country get em if you want em. If you learn to use a pistol proper you will never need night sights IHMO.
Point shooting is where its at. There is more confidence with point shooting and much training. When it gets critical then there is no time but reaction.

These old eyes aint what they used to be. That said, I will use almost
anything that helps me see the sights. What other people do or don't
do is their business. BTW I'm not an assasin, but I have eliminated
dozens of beer cans. I wasn't paid to shoot them however.

Granted it can be a challenge stealing WiFi, but hasn't this been more entertaining than talking about the usual 'which is the best nine'?

That said, and more to the topic, other opinions regarding nite-sites on short-barreled pocket hand guns are welcome.

I have to say. I'm not a fan of night sights. I don’t care if you have them or love them. This is just my .02

If it is so dark that you can't see 3 dots 2.5 feet from your face(and that is really dark), how can you tell what you are about to try and shoot?

Get a flash light if you are going to be shooting that that type of darkness. The person you may shoot is me. And i'm the niceset guy in the world.

My outdoor range let me turn off the lights one night. After my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I was able to clearly make out the outline of a target.

It was easier to acquire my sight picture than under daylight conditions. I shot considerably tighter groups. Will it matter in a real life situation? Probably not.

But at the end of the day, your handgun is more likely to malfunction then your night sights. They're relatively cheap insurance, they don't add weight, and they're always there.

I can speak from experience that under some lighting conditions, they are very practical.
