NICS and Race...I'm curious...

My response to the first post waaaaaaaayyyy up there (points to top)

sold on average about 2 handguns a day, and about twice as many long guns. I'm sure most if not all of you are familiar with the process of buying a gun (I.E. the background checks, NICS, etc etc) Anyway, it seemed that whenever a non-white person went to purchase a gun, they got the transaction "denied" or "delayed" by NICS. I worked there for two years, and I can say without a doubt that every single Black person who bought a gun was denied or delayed, except for one man who was a LEO. Again, I sold quite a few guns, and a good percentage were to minorities. It was the same for Hispanics. I sold at least 10 guns to Hispanic people, and not one of them went through without at least being "delayed" first. The only ones who seemed to avoid this were Asians. A few sales to Asians were denied, but it was mainly because of citizenship issues that were realized before the NICS call was ever even made.

perhaps it was just because you had a larger number of minorities that it seemed that they were delayed/denied more often.

What I said was that EVERY single black or hispanic was delayed or denied except for one LEO. White people got delayed maybe one in ten or so. Im not crying foul or trying to oust some racist institution here, I dont see anything wrong with the way it works. Im just asking if someone knew why/how this happens

My opinion is that ANYTHING issued by the government, state or federal, which makes a distinction of any kind based on race, is unconstitutional and violative of the 14th amendment. The 14th amendment was passed to keep the federal government "color-blind". The 14th amendment was later incorporated, as against actions of the states. If the government is supposed to be color-blind, then how could someone's race possibly be relevant to anything? They justify it as being for "statistical purposes", but really, how can the fedgov constitutionally publish statistics based on race, when it's supposed to be color-blind - i.e. race or color is supposed to be totally ignored, for all purposes.

Never seen such a distinction at all, ever. The only folks who universally get delayed are aliens.

In fact we get maybe 3 out of a 100 delays anyway

All I'm basing this on is my personal experience, and you can read about that in the initial post. Maybe its just local, but the ratios of delay/deny to approved were drastic.

White male here on green card...

1 denial, 1 delay, two day wait on a pistol... been here 7 years in the USA. First one was somehow related to the fact that I was a non-immigrant alien, though I am licensed in my state.

Other than that my last check was under 5 minutes, the dealer was telling them my name, SSN, & A# and they cut him off in mid sentence, and he gave me the "good to go" nod and hung up the phone... that was it, paid at the front desk for the transfer..

done deal...
