NICHE GUNS

I think the OP is asking if we have niche guns in our collections for their indended use, or if we buy them just to "fill-out" our collections.

ie, in my collection I have several guns that don't see the use that they were designed for. I just have them as an example of the type, so to speak.

That's how I'm reading it too.
I too, am guilty of owning a few "extra" guns that fill a personal need for what I like in a gun. For example, I have an affinity for long barrel revolvers, the shortest SA gun barrel I own is 10". And so obviously, I don't buy these with the intention of packing them around the hills for days. LOL!:)
Here's a couple of them...

Sure. I own a .460 XVR Revolver. (I got it cheap, in a trade) IF I were camping, where there was a serious threat of a bear attack, it would fill that niche.

I own a Seecamp .32. A NAA .32 Guardian. A NAA .22 Mini revolver. An American Derringer .45LC/410. If I want a gun that I can carry in a pair of swim trunks, or somewhere where I want NO one to know I'm armed, they fill that niche.

Those are two extreme niches. But, the Seecamp .32 would blow for the first scenario. The .460 XVR would look silly in a pair of swim trunks.

I am personally fascinated by small guns. I have one for true pocket SD reasons, but have others just because I like them

Two or three handguns would probably fill all my actual needs. I have more; some of them to fill a specific niche.

The Ruger LCP fills the most specific niche of my handguns; the need for a very small and very light handgun to pocket carry when wearing cotton shorts with an elastic waistband and drawstring to keep my shorts from falling down:

The little Beretta is smaller, but heavier. The Colt and Sig are also heavier. I shoot all of them better than the Ruger but not with my shorts down around my ankles. :)

It's a pretty silly question. Every gun made was designed w/certain features and benefits, a niche, in mind. Not everyone buying them do so for their intended purpose alone, or necessarily at all. And?

I have a long, heavy-barreled, NAA revolver in .22 Mag for backpacking. Not ideal for much else. Someone else might just buy it 'cause they think it is neat. But again I ask so what and where is this going!?

All of my guns serve a purpose. My main carry is my 1911 Springfield TRP however, when I can't manage to conceal it use my Walther PPS. When I can't manage to conceal that, my Ruger LCP fits the bill.

If you CCW, a smaller gun is a must have.

Al den
do you buy just to fill your safe ?
Or does it have a use ?
ALL MINE HAVE A NICHE .

I think part of his point was all guns have an intended use, but people buy guns for other reasons then the intended use. I have several guns whose only use is fun. My Beretta 21a is intended to be a pocket gun. I have never put it in my pockets. I do shoot the heck out of it.

I honesty am confused by your posts. Are you saying all your guns fill some sort of role? Do you have any guns you bought just because you wanted them? Mist people could have all their needs filled with about 3 or 4 handguns. Anymore than that your buying them cause you want them. Somebody may justify it by saying it fill a role

Sounds like he was asking if he should buy a mousegun (pocket gun). Sure, why not. Carry three, a primary, backup, and last ditch. Deep concealment sure is a niche but not necessarily a must have.

i believe a better way to phrase it would be perhaps

"do you really need a 2000 grouse shotgun, when all youd have to do is change the adjustable choke on your 900 baikal and spend the difference on ammo?"

For example .Years ago the small pocket autos went wild when KEL TEC P32& P 3AT hit the firearms market. It was a NICHE GUN . It filled the void for cc. Now look what we have to today.
