Newbie question about pistols. . .

Hantra,
Glad to see another person embracing firearms instead of a dumbass tree hugger trying to take them all away! :)I personally just bought the USP 9F for my first handgun and I love it. As others have mentioned I did a Hell of a lot of research before purchasing it(I'm still in college and money is sort of tight.) I had the most experience with a Beretta 92FS and I shot several other makes including both the Glock 17 and 19. I wanted a polymer frame for weight(I considered Glock 19, SW99 & Walther P99 also). I realized that I wanted an external hammer and safety so I decided on the HK. It's about the same price as the SW99, cheaper than the Walther, and less expensive then the Glock. Another factor that can't be overlooked is that with the USP you can get the pistol modified to any one of 9 different variants. I challenge anyone to come up with another pistol that can be modified in such a way(well, w/o a complete custom job) With you being a beginner who is to say what you may want out of the pistol in a year or two. Get the USP and you can basically change it to fit any possible future needs. It has very mild recoil and the thing is just about the most accurate pistol on the market to boot. You can't go wrong with the USP!!! ;)

Welcome to TFL!

You got a lot of good suggestions up there. I asked a similar question before and got lot of response. These guys do really help.
Gremlin is right, buy copies of gun magazines and look at all the pretty pictures... *pretty* soon you'll like all of them.

I bought a .380 as my first gun then after a few months I got a 1911 in 9mm (clone only as I can't afford a real one). Now I'm looking forward to getting a CZ75.

I cannot also decide whether to get a .22 rifle or shotgun. I know, I know, I should post a new thread for this.

I'd bet that after you get that HK you'll be eyeing that SIG.
