Newbie needs advice

coppercoin,

If you can't live with your Beretta 92FS then by all means sell it. If you use it as trade in at a shop you'll get far less than if you sell it private party. As far as single stack DA/SA autos go I think it's tough to beat the SIG Sauer P225 or the more compact P239.

Plenty of good information at www.remtek.com/arms/sig/index.htm

So many pistols, so little money.

As for the Beretta, I sold it to my neighbor and range buddy. His response was and I quote, "This musn't leave the compound. Ever." He's excited that there will be an eventual new gun entering the "compound". I agree!!

Although I'm a male, I have the same problem i.e., small hands and a short index finger. I've gone through a lot of guns thinking each one would fit. I had a Walther P99 (even with the adjustable backstrap the trigger reach was too long), a Ruger P95 (too thick a grip), a Browning BDM (fit my hand but was unreliable), an S&W 6xxx (grip too thick), a Beretta 92 (same problem), and a Glock 19 (even after modifying the frame the grip was still too thick). Most SA/DA guns have too long a trigger reach for people with short hands.

In the end, there are two guns that fit my hand (haven't tried the Sig): a 1911 with ultra thin grips and a short trigger, and a Browning Hi-Power with thin grips.

The other gun that might work is a Steyr M series in 9mm or 40. It has thin grips and a short trigger reach.

I have very small hands and have found 4 guns that I would recommend. Any 1911 single stack with slimtech or McCormick slim grips and a short sti ao svi trigger (or even the standard GI trigger), the Sig 239 in any caliber (9mm works best for most women although .357 sig available), Glock g19 or the new g36 (mine just came in), or the kahr9 or kahr40 in all variations. Any of these should fit you nicely. I have size 7 hands and all these feel real good. I like the mak with a good trigger, although this is a little stretch in double action. The browning hi-power fits almost any hand, but the trigger is not comfortable for all people with small hands. The tendency is to push the barrel off line when pulling the trigger, although a trigger job or trigger shoe can help. The sig, kahr, and glocks should require no work out of the box. I do not know how you handle that 92 if you have such small hands. I had to qual with it, but not user friendly to me. Wait until you get a pistol in your hand that really fits you. You will use that 92 for a fishing weight.

The walther P99 and the s&w sw99 have interchangable grips. small medium and large.
Just push out a pin and swap the the next grip.

It was mentioned earlier and I will reinforce it, try Sig 225 if you want to go with 9mm. I have small hands and I find it a pleasure to shoot.
