Hello All,

I'm happy to say that I've narrowed my purchase down to 2 fine pistols:

The sig sauer p226

The Beretta 92 Elite I

I've fired both at the range, and both are fine pistols. But, here is the dilema.

The 226 brings all of Sigs engineering perfection. The drawbacks are the not so great finish sigs are known for as well as big hit in the wallet.

The Beretta Elite has a smooth action and costs less, but if I'm going to spend that much on the elite...should I dole out the extra $80-$100 for a Sig.

Any input is greatly appreciated, especially from owners of the above-mentioned. Happy and safe shooting.

The Sig will be easier for concealed carry should you go that route. My wife has a P228, and I have a model 96 Beretta. I like them both, but I gave on carrying my Beretta a while ago.

I have never owned that beretta but have fired a lot of them.Sig action is to me far better.I carry a P220 and have for about 3 yrs now.Yes the finish is showing some wear but not bad.The colt I carried before that allmost all the the finish was gone in a year.I think the finish on the sig has lasted very well in compareson.Go with the sig,its worth the extra.

i love my 92G Elite. it shoots great, very accurate. sigs are also very accurate and last time i shot a sig i remember i thought the trigger pull was pretty smooth. both guns are made well and are very reliable. i feel that berettas are just a tad more reliable than sigs and also more durable. the 92G Elite has relevitely no recoil since all 92's are light recoiling and the Brigadier slide helps recoil some more. also i like the sights on the Elite over those on the standard 92FS. i presonally feel berettas and glocks are actually better (or at least equal) to sigs and HK's which cost more. if you can get just as good a gun for $100 less and like it just as much then go for it. its all up to you though. i find that they 226 and 92G Elite have very different feels to them. if one feels better in your hands than the other get that one.

I have a Sig P226 40S&W, and it's worth every penny. It is very accurate and reliable. From my experience, the Sig is a notch above a beretta. The new 226s have a one piece machined slide that is impregnated with nitron, so it's very weather resistant. The finish is fine...If it's good enough for the Navy SEALs it's good enough for me. I wouldn't hesitate to get the 226.

I have been continuously impressed with the Sigs I've owned. IMHO, Berettas do not enjoy quite as stellar a reputation for quality.

Welcome to TFL.

He didn't include Glock on his final list...although I agree Glock pistols are great, this doesn't answer his question.

Both a great pistols. That said, I prefer the Sig 226. In my hands, it just performs so much better (in terms of comfort accuracy, etc).

My advice is to try both out...rent them. You may find the Beretta fits you better. Only way to tell is to try both out extensively...

My vote is for the Sig. Own both & bought the 226 used & Elite 96G. Do like the Elite very much but it's just to big & Heavy for CCW, the Sig is a good bit thinner, probably better balanced for CCW, certainly the better DA pull & it's a Sig!

Never owned a Beretta but my first love was a Sig P228. Hard to find a better pistol than a Sig IMHO. :)

Go with the SIG. My P226 will out perform the 92F I have any day.Better accuracy and trigger for sure. I don't think you will be sorry.....

I would vote Sig, having shot and owned both. The Beretta is a nice gun, but I think the Sig has a better trigger and feels better in my hand. The latter is in my opinion a matter of personal preference. Good luck in your choice.

No choice here, if both feel well in your hands get the Sig. The Sig is well made and very accurate, which is why many LEO carry them as duty weapons. I work with retired Sgt.'s in charge of a range that trains LEO's who have a choice to carry any pistol they want and they both carry Sigs as their concealed carry weapons.

Hi All; Here's another vote for the Sig. Go
ahead and spend the extra $80-100 dollars,
you won't regret it one bit! The 226 is an
excellent weapon; I prefer the 9m/m caliber
with the two-tone finish and factory Sig-Lite
night sight's. There are a lot of great firearms out there, including Glock's, Beretta's, and H&K's; but I would purchase
the "Rolls-Royce" of handguns, the Sig P226.

Best Wishes,

From the advice here, it looks like most people like the Sig.

Still, you can get two Rugers (P95 and P97) for the price of that Sig. Then you've got a 9mm and a .45--both of them ultra tough and reliable. Just my two cents. Sometimes those high priced toys aren't all they're cracked up to be. I'm not saying Sigs aren't good guns, but they seem a little overpriced IMO.

Now this was excellent advice. I must say my Ruger P97 has a much better SA trigger than my Sigs and better accuracy too. In fact, I like the P97 better than both my Sigs. IMO, the Ruger P95/P97 are at least as good as a Sig Sauer.
