New @ Wal-Mart Federal 40 S&W 135 Grain JHP XM40HA

These just showed up @ the local wal-marts in west central florida, silver and black box Federal 135 grain 40 S&W JHP's. SG Manager told me he's been bugging the merchandisers for any and all handgun caliber ammo. Thus we've gotten the RWS 124 grain 9mm FMJ, and now this nice JHP. Priced @ 22.97 for a box of 50, miles cheaper than comparable 180 gr 20 ct winchester JHP @ 26+. Going to try it out this weekend but actually being able to run a decent amount of a JHP to insure reliable feeding without breaking the bank is great.

another reason i just bought a sig p239 .40 to go with my uspc .40 is that i can ALWAYS find .40 ammo at all walmarts. i pay 14.87 for fed fmj's and 20.87 for win pdx sd ammo. :D

While I use the Winchester 'T' series 155gr JHPs in my 27 and 23, those 135s look fine.

I have no doubt the 135s will work. And yes, it's not a bad price.

Stole this pic from another forum comparing these to Winchester Ranger T 165gr. The 135 gr have a massive & deep cavity compared to other .40 S&W rounds I've seen.

Damn the ammo Gods were working with me for once, my local Walmart just got some in the cabinet an hour before I showed up and I bought some at $22.97. I expected to see either a Sierra or Nosler 135gr bullet but this is neither. Now all we need some real world ballistics tests on these.

WalMart Ammo

Well, thats' great for you 40s fans. The bad news at the moment is,
357SIG is 15.00 a box higher the last time I checked at Sportsman's.
I hope this is some kind of temporary fluke, but there it was-they had
just stocked the shelves and it was listed at 37 bucks and some change
for a box of 50.

I have tried to go on Federal website, but for some reason I can't today, connection timed out, Anyway I have read on a couple other forums these are 135gr HST rated at 1200fps and were originally made for the border patrol and the H&K P2000sk. FBI protocol testing it penetrated approx 12.6 inch and expanded to approx .74. This may not be exact as I am recalling from memory but it was mid twelve penetration and mid .7? expansion.
Federal 40 S&W 135gr P/N XM40HA The box makes no mention of HST though.

I picked a couple of boxes of this up today and look forward to trying it out. Walmart had all kinds of ammo, with the exception of .380. The clerk told me he was getting so much ammo in that he was running out of places to put it! Never expected to hear that!

Wally World on Richmond Rd. in Lexington had this ammo last night. Didn't buy any as I still have almost a case of 155gr Win Silver Tips. Don't shoot much .40 S&W.

I bought a box of that 2 weeks ago at a WalMart in Anderson, SC...same price. I can see from the pictures here that it probably won't run in my Kahr PM40, which likes a more rounded nose or will FTF. It runs fine on Hornady XTP, currently the 180 gr flavor. I can probably use the ammo in one of the other .40s, but the JHP at half the going price caught my eye and I grabbed a box. These are rockets. In the smaller frame guns I usually shoot subsonic with 180 gr. bullets.

Showed up in TN too. Two boxes for me and the Walther P99.
.40 isn't quite as common as it was 6 months ago. I think there have been a few put in service after going out and only seeing same....no 9mm no .45.

I saw them as well, but when I looked at the bullet, I noticed the skivves on the side of it werent as long as they were on the 180 gr HSTs. Same thing with the 165 gr HSTs as well. The 165s dont expand near as much as the 180's do. But I may pick up a few boxes just because they are HSTs and they are stocked at Wally World...
