New to rifles

I'm a bit amused to see you carping about the cost of a .22LR rifle and recommending an AR-15 in the same post. :) He'll sure spend a lot more learning with an AR, even forgetting about the 4x price of the gun. If you don't reload, .22LR is as cheap as it gets. Sending 1000 rounds of .223 downrange will exceed the cost of that .22 rifle in ammo costs alone.

Well, if he's concerned about not having to buy a whole bunch of rifles, then I'd say he should get a 30-30 Marlin right off the bat. In fact...that's not a bad idea. Ammo would be a bit expensive to learn on considering how much shooting he'd be doing. I still say .22 bolt.

Obviously I have been misunderstood.

i'm just suggesting that he go into the gun shop a get a rifle he like. The feels comfortable, and that he feels comfortable with.

Everyone kept saying go with a .22, but what if he doesn't like any of the .22s the shops got?

I was just reiterating what El Rojo states a lot earlier.
