new-to-me DAO SP101...

Made an impulse purchase of a DAO Ruger SP101 at the local pawn shop the other day. I've owned a snubby and 3" barreled SP101 before and really missed them. However I'd would have rather had the DAO model then just happen to be looking around the pawn shop when the time had passed and they set this on the shelf. When I asked what they wanted for it, I was told $375 OTD....how could I turn it down? :D Bought the Badger grips from a member here and am really diggin' it. Now to find a decent IWB holster...

I used to have the same setup...

installed a Mepro front sight, carried in a AKJ Concealco IWB or Crossbreed qwikclip IWB......

My Badger grips chipped out a bit, from the shock of full house .357 loads...
but still functioned fine....

Love the Ruger SP....

My wife has the same gun, but with different grips.

With speer gold dot 125 grain 38+p, that gun shoots like a dream. Almost no recoil and followup shots are fast and accurate. Its a snub 38 you can actually practice with, unlike the LCR and the ultru-light J frame Smiths.

With 357 magnums, I find the recoil a bit stout, and the ball of flame muzzle blast is a bit much. My wife did shoot a box of 158 grain magnums once, but after 50 rounds, she was done shooting pistols for the day !

$375 OTD?

Excellent price. The grips cost about 100 by themselves.

I have a DAO Sp101, same barrel length, with Secret Service stocks.

So I know it's an EXCELLENT gun! Mine shoot dead on!

I have always wondered if it's possible to swap the trigger group and spurless hammer from a 2" DAO SP101 into a 3" DA/SA SP101, assuming one owned both.

A 3" DAO SP101 would be the only handgun a honest man would need I think. :D

Ruger SP101 DA only, .357magnum...

I owned a NIB Ruger SP101 .357magnum snub in the early 1990s.
The DA only revolver was my first handgun purchase. The revolver was great but I disliked the factory Ruger grips. They were awful while shooting full power magnum rounds(125gr JHPs).
Today, I'd get a rubber Hogue grip or maybe the slick CT Lasergrip. A Ruger SP101 DA only .357magnum is a top notch defense revolver.

Nice find, traded one a couple of years ago and wish I would have kept it. I DO like the speed six I got, but wish I had just bought instead of traded for it. Can't beat that price.

DAOs are fun. Despite having carried a semi for years, shooting revolver in a DA mode is fast fun and a blast. It teaches trigger control and focus on the front sight. Enjoy.

Got one. It's my favorite for CCW. Carry corbon 110 gr 357 and keep it in an old Safariland IWB that I used to keep my 36 in. I have also used a Clipdraw which some don't like because of the exposed trigger.

I have the Gun Digest Book of Ruger Handguns, and in it the author states that Ruger matches the trigger mechanism with individual revolvers (because of some required hand fitting). It shows a picture of the Ruger revolvers moving through assembly in the factory, and the trigger mechanism is always hanging on a hook right next to an individual revolver.

I love mine.

Carried it 14hrs yesterday with the black leather holster appendix carry, easily.

Loaded with 125grn Barnes. Handles 357 rounds well.

Great minds think alike. Mine has rosewood Badgers, and I also installed a XS Standard Dot on mine. One of my favorite carry revolvers.

I had an DA/SA SP101 back a few years ago in 9mm. Wish I had that one back now. I must have had a Blonde Moment when I traded it off.
