TC Arms, just threw their hat into the ring of $400 and below bolt guns, with the new Compass.

Looks to be an upgrade from the Venture, for less money. MSRP $399.:)

Threaded for muzzle brakes
New rotary mags
New 3-position safety

And just when i told myself i was through buying budget rifles,i may have to buy one more.:D

S&W purchased TC. I think this was a big plus for S&W to build the AR type rifles. And they seem to be out performing Ruger in that space. I think? Not much good seems to have come to the TC line. No harm either that I can see.

I was told the Contender was spun off to another company? I dont know for a fact. The high class, single shot (I dont know hw to say it, company DNA). The TC line seems radically different from the S&W core business.

I AM not aware of any hint of lower quality, such as you see in all the freedom group (aka Remington) acquisitions. They did physically move from NH to CT.

I am curious if this had anything to do with dropping the TC Ikon or if that preceded the buyout? And if there is still a 1 moa guarantee on any TC rifles? The Ikon had quite a brand reputation around these parts and seems odd to just discard that name value or just drop that rifle line. That was shaping up to be their model 70.

Thanks! I have a Contender (original style) with several barrels, though I've not shot it in years. Actually, this is the first I've thought about it in years & I just might have to dust it off and shoot it!

As an aside, I saw in the recent NRA magazine article about the Contender, that would do double duty as a .45 and a .410. At the time I bought mine, a cousin said his father had bought a Contender a number of years prior, and did I want to borrow it for a while. Turned out to be one of the guns spoken of in the magazine, and I had it for a few weeks or so, but never shot a .410 out of it.

I would say "wait and see" before buying a new TC model. I say this because my TC Venture (which is a good shooting rifle) has been RECALLED 2x since I bought it 4 or 5 years ago. Now they either fixed it or it didn't suffer from the perceived problem and I got it back fairly quick. However, it is a royal PITB to remove the scope and rings, box it up, and then be home to receive it when UPS returns it.

The first recall was before S&W bought them and the second was after.

S&W only kept ?7? people from TC. That was originally, I don't think all those people stayed with the company. Their product knowledge of the TC line is dismal. I called with some basic questions and the SW CS people basically didn't know anything and indicated they no longer support some of the TC products that were just a few years old.
In the move they shut down production for quite a while. Encore and Contender barrels were real short for a while along with new frames and miscellaneous parts. They are still not producing much in the barrel department. I'm not sure about the other guns.

I haven't seen much in stores to comment much on the quality of what is being pushed out. I kind of feel like they are discontinuing the single shots.
