New Sig P938 and P232 in 22 Long Rifle

Huh, hadn't even thought of that--it could very well be the case. 1.000" for .22LR vs. 0.984" for .380.

OAL on 9x19 is 1.169"... by the time you account for the overlapping rims of the .22LR, I'd expect the magazine would need to be closer to the P938's size (front to back) than that of the P238. My guess is you just aren't going to be able to make .22LR work through a gun sized for .380.

I sure hope they are better than the " mosquito ". I ended up shooting one last week and it reminded me of a mosquito in the sense that it is annoying and good for nothing... You just want to kill it.

Update!!! Update!!!

Bad news.
I held one of the P938 "long slide" guns in the LGS tonight and it was DEFINITELY lighter than the regular 9mm P938--even the regular slide length .2LR looked a bit longer than the 9mm P938.

I'm afraid we've been had--I'm betting this too has the zinc alloy slide...I'm 99% sure of it. And what's worse, I've bought one already thinking it was steel, since SIG just posted the SAME SPECS online and didn't bother to change the weights, etc...leading everyone to believe these were steel.

I may sell it new, unused, or I may try it out a bit at the range...I'm just ticked SIG didn't come forward to dispel rumors it was steel or confirm it was or whatever.

I was guessing they might be aluminum like the AA Glock kits. I'd be OK with that. I wish a flush fitting magazine was an option though.

Honestly who cares? It's a .22lr plinking toy. If it were made of steel people would complain about the weight and more so the price tag. If the gun fuctions it functions... I don't really care what its made up of, .22lr doesn't need very much strength to have fun with.

Quite a few people care. I, for one, never sell or trade. I prefer firearms that are built to last.

Well you can spend upwards of $1000 to get a Beretta .22lr cheetah that was discontinued. They are nice.

Sig builds to last! As do most firearms makers. I just love those who condemn firearms (and other products) without the least bit of exposure. My Sig P 938/.22 lr is fun and reasonably accurate for a plinker, a target gun it is not and was never intended to be (maybe the long slide is but I have not handled one). I fully intend to present the pistol to my grandson in future years without concern that it will fall apart, melt or otherwise not meet my expectations of being "a quality firearm".

I would venture a guess and say they are probably not made by Sig.. likely Umarex, but I have yet to see one in person so I am unaware.

The Beretta 87's are nice.... and I own more expensive guns, but I can't justify a $700-$1000 plinking .22lr handgun. Not yet anyways.

If it is not SIG making the P232 .22LR , then it would not be Umarex, which owns Walther, but rather GSG (German Sport Guns) in whom SIG SAUER has a controlling interest.

The SIG website does say the frame is hard anodized and the slide is blued so at least we can hope the frame is the stock SIG aluminum alloy P232 frame.

I don't THINK it would be the same frame as a normal P232 given the added safety and stuff but who knows.

I thought Umarex produced the Mosquito for them, which is why my brain went their, maybe I was mistaken. I know Umarex makes the Walther, n HK and Colt copies as they own Walther.

I know this thread is a couple of months old, but if anyone is interested in the P938 .22 lr. Conversion kits, they are available here.

http://shop.sigsauerguns.com/Sig-Sauer-CONV-938-22-TGT.html

Quick processing and shipping of orders. They even have magazines for the p938 .22 conversions.

Yes the slide is an aluminum alloy. The target model is a 4 in.( i didnt measure it, just eye balled it and compared it to the 9 mm) with three white dot sights & fully adjustable rear sight.

It is of good quality and finish, after cleaning off the shipping preservative oil and lubbing, it fit easily and slides smoothly.

I haven't been able to take it out shooting yet, so the only negative I have found so far is that the magazine does not operate the slide stop when hand cycling snap caps through it. So, there is no hold open on the last round.
The slide will hold partially open when it hits the rear of the magazine follower jamming the magazine in the frame. To free the magazine and eject it, the slide needs to be pulled to the rear and the slide stop manually engaged. Then it will allow the magazine to freely eject when the mag release is pushed.

I will email Sig Sauer and see if this is how conversion kit was designed or is a problem with the kit and extra magazine that I got.
