It appears that Sig is introducing a dedicated P938 in 22 Long Rifle, and a P232 in 22 Long Rifle. SWEET !!

From Sig...

SIG SAUER® Adds Rimfire Variants to P938® Series of Pistols
Published Date: 1/14/2014
NEWINGTON, N.H. (January 14, 2014) — SIG SAUER® now offers its popular P938® single-action 9mm pistol in .22LR, allowing for less expensive practice and increased fun as a “plinking” gun. Owners of P938 pistols will also see two conversion uppers, including a “long-slide” target version.

The P938-22 Rosewood offers all the features of its larger-caliber brothers, but chambered in the common .22LR cartridge. With a 10-round magazine, the Rosewood features SIGLITE® night sights, rosewood grips and a durable Nitron® finish.

Current P938 owners can purchase the conversion kit, which contains a Nitron finished slide, 3.3″ rimfire barrel and 10-round magazine. A 4.1″ “long-slide” conversion features adjustable contrast sights and an increased sight radius.

With the popularity of the P938 as a concealed carry pistol, the P938-22 allows the operator to practice with the less expensive .22LR rimfire round, and the reduced report and recoil makes it a great option for new shooters.

And the P232 announcement...

SIG SAUER® Introduces Classic P232® Chambered in .22LR
Published Date: 1/14/2014
NEWINGTON, N.H. (January 14, 2014) — SIG SAUER® introduces a .22LR variant to the Classic P232 pistol, offering shooters a less expensive option with significant design enhancements. The new SIG SAUER P232-22 features an American (side) magazine release, external slide stop, ambidextrous manual safety and threaded barrel.

Featuring the same sleek lines as the original, the P232-22 gives operators the ability to practice with the same size, similar weight, DA/SA trigger, and frame mounted de-cocking lever of the standard P232. The light-recoil of the P232-22 is also a great choice for new shooters.

The P232-22 comes standard with a threaded barrel and would be perfectly paired with the SIG-SD .22LR Silencer. Contrast sights and an all-black frame and slide finish round out the package.

Nice! A longslide one sounds nifty too. I wish ruger would make an LC22. Smith and wesson should make a .22 shield too.

Oh great,,, More .22's for me to lust after,,,,,

This is all I need,,,
More guns in rimfire/centerfire pairings. :(

Sig already has a line called the "Classic 22",,,
These are the only pistols I know of that convert up to centerfire.

I wonder if these new .22's will convert up as well?

I would love to own either. I just sold my 232 in .380 because I no longer carried it, but I would love one in .22 for the range.

I sold my Sig P230 SL because I just was not carrying it and I am not a huge lover of .380. However looks and the feel of that gun make it one of my FAVORITE pistols to admire, and hold. A .22LR one WILL BE PERFECT. I am going to order one ASAP.

Are these Umarex-style knockoffs like Walther .22s, or does Sig make their own? If it's an actual Sig-produced .22 P938 I think that would be really, really fun, in eight years when .22LR can be found again.

I hope they offer a slide and barrel conversion. The P232 is a pricey little unit!

I doubt they would seeing as the P232 is a blow back action which uses a fixed barrel that is pressed into the frame. Removing and installing the new barrel would prove extremely difficult and would be less of a conversion and more like a modification to .22lr.

I'll wait and see what the conversion kit runs for the 938, but even then I'm hardly jumping at the bit for one.

.22LR has been hard to find and pricey when you do, so quite honestly it's less trouble for me to just reload and shoot 9mm.

Wouldn't mind the P938 upper as an understudy.

For the P232, I love my P232 SL. Unfortunately what they're taking about is not a P232, as they've changed the mag release, added a slide stop and a safety and a threaded barrel (the normal P230/2 has none of this) which makes it somewhat useless for training.

I just hope it's not a slightly re-designed "Walther" (Umarex) PPk-22 in the line of the P22, Mosquito, PPk-22; not that those are bad guns, but they're not built to the same quality standards as the "real" ones they look like (P99, P-2xx, PPk).

I agree, it will be a disappointment if Umarex builds these guns, and they are Zamac. That being said, I do like my Mosquito, and its been perfectly reliable with many different ammo brands. I think I got the only one that works, from reading reports on the Interweb...
