New Sig P220 10mm almost derailed my plans yesterday!!

I went over to my LGS yesterday with two specific purchases to make. They have had a 6.5X55 Carl Gustav Swedish Mauser for awhile that I planned on purchasing, and I have been on the market for a new hunting rifle. So I went on over to see what they had.

Upon walking into the shop, I saw the owner putting a new stainless Sig into the case. I asked "Is that a P220 10mm?" Well, that's indeed what it was. He had it listed for $1149, which was pretty much my entire budget for the two rifles I went there to purchase.

It was a beautiful looking gun. The SA trigger pull was very nice. It had a tritium front night sight, and the rear sight was a plain black adjustable sight. The grips were nicely checkered rosewood that wrapped around the back in typical Sig fashion. The frontstrap was checkered.

I ended exercising some willpower and buying the Swedish Mauser, along with a Tkka T3 Lite .30-06 with a Leupold scope.:D:D

Problem is, now I can't get that P220 off of my mind. I think I'm going to have to purchase one in the near future.

I don't see a problem here unless you don't already reload 10mm, factory 10mm will set fire to your wallet!

I do currently reload 10mm for my Glock 20, so I've got that covered. I'm gonna call my LGS today and if they still have the P220 10mm in stock I'm going to purchase it. I decided that I've just gotta have one!!:D

Well as luck would have it, my LGS still had the P220 Stainless Elite 10mm in stock. It is a Lipsey's special edition- SAO, all stainless, rosewood grips, plain black rear adjustable sight, front Siglite night sight, front slide serrations, and checkering on the front strap and the front of the trigger guard. This gun is just plain beautiful!

Here are some pics I took when I got home. I won't be able to get out to shoot it until Sunday:(

glad

I'm glad to see SIG making a "new" pistol in 10mm. The 10mm continues to hang in there.

Congrats to you on what I predict will be the most accurate of all the 10mm autos.

Wow, gorgeous gun!

I so want a 10mm eventually, I already reload .40 so already have all the powders for it. It'd probably be a Glock tough since the Sig is out of my range.

If only Beretta would make a 10mm!

Overall, I am quite impressed with the build quality. It is heavy duty, and I think it will handle a diet of 10mm just fine (within reason:D) The slide to frame fit is very tight. There is no discernible play between the two. The wood grips are well fitted at the back. You cannot feel any line or ridge where the grips meet at the back of the frame.

Wow, gorgeous gun!

I know! After seeing it and handling it at my LGS, I couldn't get it off of my mind for the next week haha. That very rarely happens with any gun for me.

What's the capacity of the Sig 10mm?

This one is a 8+1 single stack.

Congrats! I'm waiting on Grand Power's upcoming offering for my next 1 centimeter gun. I am sorely tempted by the new Sigs but I am still hopeful that Sig will make a double stack if this goes well.

I have been wondering that myself. I would love to see a 10mm P227 or P320. But with the cartridge dimensions and the power of the 10mm itself, I'm not sure if either platform would work. That's best left up to the engineers to decide. I'd sure like to see them make it happen though:D:D

Although highly improbable; I would LOVE to see Sig build a P224 SAS 10mm. That would be awesome!!

IdahoG36: thanks for posting the pics.

Like everything I see, except for mag capacity and that rear adj sight. I wouldn't buy it for a target gun, so I'd want a tritium fixed sight for EDC and general hard-use.

Not to mention, with a bit more engineering effort on the magazine, follower, and floorplate, Sig could've easily reached 10-rd capacity on the frame's single-stack design. Heck, S&W was almost there with the 9-rd magazine capacity of its 10XX-series guns.

Maybe they'll re-think it and eventually produce a 10mm variant of the 227, with double-stack mags holding, like, 12-rds.

Can only hope ... ;)

If they do, I'm in for one! Not at only 8 rounds though. That is one nice looking 10mm, there's no denying that.

I think you will be pleased. I have P220 Match-Elite with the same rear sight. Most sights, even the adjustable ones, are not made to that quality level. The only 10mms I buy have quality sights because without them you can't take advantage of the range of the 10mm. The SAO is just icing on the cake. If I was designing one, that is what it would be. Congrats on a great pistol and one of those is now on my short list. :D
