New scope for me - Burris? Leupold?Nikon?

I own two Redfield Revolutions and since Leupold bought the company their products carry the Leupold warranty. I am very happy with them. I have a 3-9x and a 4-12x, I like the 4-12 more.

I would be interested in the Redfield Revenge 4-12x or 6-18x. It has a range finding system. Redfield makes an affordable great quality optic.

603 thats a nice one dude... I have a VXIII-3.5-10x40 with the target turrets, it's on my Savage 111 30-06, it's a deer hammer for sure man...:)

I have very little experience with nikon but have friends that have them or had them, my one and only real experience with a nikon was a good friend had just bought a leupold to replace a higher end nikon (Monarch 4-16) on a .204 ruger, when I loosened the rings and lifted the nikon out, the tube was badly dented from the leupold rings, I personally have NEVER had that happen to a leupold and I've owned a bunch of them over the years!! I have never used a torque wrench either, I tighten as tight as I can get without stripping anything, I have scratched the surface but NEVER dented the tube on a leupold. I have seen dented tubes lots of times and its usually on tasco, simmons, cheaper scopes. After seeing the dented tube on that over 400.00 nikon it set my mind at rest knowing I would never ever own one! I've heard good about them but more bad from friends that have tried them after owning a leupold.

As long as you stay with the major brands the level of the product line is more important than brand. In other words some folks just say buy a Nikon or a Leopold without any thought to the fact that both make entry level bargain priced products like Nikon's Prostaff and Leopold's Rifleman lines as well as mainstream, premium, and super premium lines. I'm a stickler for quality but brand agnostic.

In the $300 range I'd look at a Weaver Grand Slam 4.5-14x40. The Grand Slam is in roughly the same quality league as a Bushnell Elite, Nikon Monarch, and Leopold VX-II. On the other hand if you can spend $430 I'd go with a Bushnell Elite 4-16x40 because it's a tad brighter in low light.

Weaver Super Slam 4X20X50 Ill #4 with a FFP reticle and 30mm tube. $659.00 at Natchez. High power, great glass, resettable turrets, generous eye relief. On par with the Leupold. Better than any Nikon or Burris.

Or you could look to a Meopta Meostar or Ziess Conquest. Bushnell 6500 is a heck of an optic too.

I just ordered a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9X40 for my Rem700 in.308 from Cabela's for $179.99. The Buckmasters are on sale and there is a $20.00 coupon so I ended up paying $159.99. I have one on my M70 in .270 Win. The matte finish is only available with the BDC reticle, which I didn't want, but for $160.00, I'll live with it... A great price for a very good scope.

However, I have a very affordable and very nice Vortex and got wonderful, personal service when I needed it. I don't think their product is Leupold-level, but neither is the price. Vortex is fully aware they're an economical choice and in my opinion they absolutely rock in that capacity. Sorta the Ruger of scopes.

You are aware, that just like other manufacturers, Vortex has a fairly wide price range which reflects the quality of optic you are paying for? I paid $850 for my Vortex Viper PST FFP and I wouldn't choose "economical" as the word I would use to describe it unless that means a very good optic for the price. That being said, I would put it up against similarly priced Leupold glass any day.
