I finally found a good carry revo. A 19-5 in excellent shape for a good price. No holster wear, great lockup and checkout (thanks JM), and a great trigger both ways. My dealer came through big time.

I've done the happy-feet dance, and am working the grip situation, as it had the small K-grips, which I don't like. I got a set of checkered rosewood SS grips from Eagle yesterday, and after a bit of expected hand-fitting in the backstrap area, are going to be just what I was looking for. The fitting always requires a bit of re-finishing on the woodwork, unless you want to send the gun away. Not my style, and besides, I like fooling with this stuff and putting a little effort into a gun, to make it 'mine'.

It's been a long time since I've had a carry revo that I was really happy with, in terms of function, looks and power. I know, I could have bought anything, but this one just popped up. Now I have to get a good holster. Shucks.

I think finding any blued .357 K frame with little or no finish wear, and that passes muster with high marks for a reasonable price, is a good find. What kind of holster do you have in mind?

I second what LAK said. Any blued steel Model 19 in that kind of condition is a great find. And since you're getting some really nice grips for it I have a feeling its found the right kind of owner. Congratulations.

I agree. The stainless Model 66 is too Hollywood for me. I sold mine to get a shotgun I wanted more. Now I'm in the market for a replacement just like Trapshooter's.

Spend a little time (and I do mean a little) out in the Florida swamp with that blued 19 and see how quickly you'll want that 66 back (or want the 19 hard chromed). Sometimes I think just talking about going fishing there can cause a blued gun to start rusting.

The 19 is a great gun, but down here the 66 is a lot more practial (not tactical, you need a Glock for that :) and they do hold up well down here also).

I know the hills of Tenn. are beautiful and athough the beauty of the Fla. swamp may not compare and is somewhat of an aquired taste, its unlikely you will find bass the size you will find in S. Fla. anywhere else, including Tenn. (However, that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to go fishing in Tenn. There are very few places I wouldn't like to go fishing.) :)

I'm not planning on hunting gators anytime soon. ;)

As for a holster, I'm still thinking about that. I'm leaning towards something of an inside-the-belt-outside-the-waistband style, with an FBI cant. I'm sure the folks at Mitch Rosen can fix me up. I've looked around quite a bit, and there are lots that will work and are all good holsters as well. Alessi, Kramer, and Tucker all come immediately to mind. I'm open to suggestions, but I'm not in a huge rush.

Got the grips fitted, finish touched up, and (I'm obviously biased) whoopee, they are just what I was after, and they look really good. Pretty dark, not red. Presentable and business like. I have to get a picture on here pretty quick.

Not the fanciest gun I ever saw or own, but there's something extremely satisfying about this one.

Thanks, LAK. I like it. (Can you tell?) :D

I'm going to fool, around on the loading bench today, but I'm alrady trying to figure out improved sight options. At the very least, I'll put a factory style white-outline rear sight blade on it. I just can't seem to buy a gun without 'personalizing' it somehow. ;)

I traded an AR stripped lower for a 2-1/2" M19 that needed some work. The finish was an easy 98%, but cylinder play was excessive. I sent it back to the factory, and they replaced the cylinder (due to a bulged chamber) and some lockwork. Now, it's an all around 98% gun, due only to finish.

For CCW grips, I only use hard nylon grips. Full price from Brownelle's is only around $15, but with my C&R discount, it's less than $12. Is it fancy, no. Comfortable, practical, and I don't have to worry about a scratch on them, definately. I've never found a better grip for CCW.

Holsters for that critter...I have a pair of earlier snub 19s. Galco SIL 104 and it's mirror for the left side (can't read the number). Work well with GOOD belt. High n tight. Paid 5 bucks each for em out of different used leather boxes.

Corrosion. I spent years in the tropics with blued guns. Used RIG inside and out. No corrosion allowed. An ignored stainless gun can look good on the outside and rot on the inside.

Let me help you with that....

I've always wanted a nice model 19 snub myself, but I wouldn't wanna carry it and mess up the finish.... :D

Thanks again for the compliments, folks. And Sam, I'm headed to Galco's site to look that SIL 104 up, if it's still current.

After I do some stuff around the house today, I will get to the range.

This gun is a natural pointer for me with the new grips, so I have some fairly high expectations. :D

CRSam,

I think the SIL 104 is discontinued. What are the specifics on that model? They might still offer something similar, or I'll know what to look for.

Thanks.

Okay, I got this baby to the range. It points like a dream. An unconcious gun. Whoopee. Still working on the right load, but I'll get there.

Trapshooter, I like your new Model 19. My other carry gun is an S&W Model 686 fitted with a Hogue, Goncalo Alves Monogrip. One thing I've always suspected about a man who carries a revolver is that he can (probably) shoot straight.

I've never thought that a Model 19 or 686 is too large for all day long concealed carry; personally, I can't stand these tiny little revolvers that I see around, nowadays. Sure, they must be easy to live with; but who'd want to do any serious gun fighting with one?

PS: Before you buy any holster for your new beauty, take a look at Matt Del Fatti's holster line. Matt made a really beautiful, skin-tight, IWB rig for my 686 – I really love it! (He makes an excellent low profile, ‘split-the-belt’ speedloader carrier, too.)
