New Ruger Chargers

I've toyed with getting one of the original chargers for years but with the new takedown I'll jump on one for sure.

As for use, fun and just 'cause. But think of all the money you can save being able to use all the existing 10/22 accessories you have!

You mean a hybrid between a 10/22 takedown rifle and a charger takedown. A 16", 18" pistol or a 10" rifle......uh oh.....ATF time. SBR w/ a 10/22 stock and a charger forend assembly. I wonder if Ruger has thought of that?

A question for Ruger... they are a niche item, so I imagine sales weren't as brisk as they'd like.

I expect the Charger doesn't require much change in the production line to produce, different roll mark on the receiver and shorter barrel, but other than that it is identical to the 10/22, so making periodic runs of the Charger shouldn't present a big challenge for Ruger.

I can see this in a small game hunter role - place it on a bag, a rock, a log, etc. for prone shooting. Scope ready, with bipod. Not sure how it could be handled from a standing position. Maybe a cheek weld? Could be difficult with the AR grip - I'd have to handle one to find out. As a hunting pistol, it might be useful in a SHTF/WROL role - keep the AR, AK, etc. for big game/defensive situations, and use the Charger as a (possibly ) more accurate squirrel getter than a Ruger MK series. Less bulk than carrying a second full size rifle. Of course, if you can nail a squirrel at 50 yards with a smaller pistol, then you don't need it. For myself, though, I think I might have a better chance at that range with the Charger than a MK.

There was one member at RFC that put his in a chopped 10/22 stock and sent it to ATF and got their approval for the stock. It had a short section of the butt left, much like the Rossi lever action pistols.

You could hold that to your cheek, but it wasn't long enough to shoulder. I built one to try it out, but I like the single point sling and pistol grip better.

I don’t know, there are several handgun enthusiasts that have very similar setups, albeit for larger game. The Charger is on my long list, just simply from the utilitarian setup for small game hunting. I though the original Charger with a bipod was stupid, but after trying at a range once with a pistol scope, I was quite impressed with the stability and accuracy. Let’s be honest, it’s very much a niche pistol but there isn’t much on the market like it and those who want a .22LR pistol for target shooting or small game hunting, it’s hard to beat for the price and the same reliable 10/22 action.

This current version really adds to the interest of those wanting to suppress it or make it an SBR project.

I once spoke with a guy who hunted squirrel from his deer stand with one regularly.

The are novel and interest me, but I join the group who aren't interested enough to throw down the cash for one.

Considering the limited extra cost of producing this model I thought it was foolish for Ruger to discontinue previously even if they don;t sell that well.

Based off this weekends gun show the new Ruger chargers are going to sell well. I have an old one. Don't really care for the new ones. The Chantilly gun show had new Chargers on Friday. Sunday they were all gone.
