It has the same lock-work as the Python, Official Police, Officer Model Target etc. My DS was made in 74 and it's internals are the same as my Trooper, OM Target.

The 3rd generation Detective Special still had the folded leaf hammer spring. Here's a photo of a 3rd generation DS (top) next to an Armscor M206 (bottom), which has been alleged to be a copy of the DS. (It isn't.)
