New Pony

This little Colt followed me home recently. It is a 1975 model with a few light scratches and it had a little bit of cloudiness. I polished it up some and snapped a couple of pictures to show off. It has Pachs on it now but I plan on finding some wood grips for it. I put it through the revolver checks and it appears to be in good shape. Hope to shoot it some tomorrow. I was able to pick it up for less than 500 so I think I made out OK. Not a great deal but I can live with it. :)

I love nickel gen3 detective specials! I was able to pick mine up a few years ago on the cheap, it also had Pach's on it. I found these Badger grips to be quite the improvement!

Gunluver, I will check those Badgers out.

I took the DS snubbie out to the range today. I shot about 2/3 of a box of 158 gr roundnose thru it. Functioned great and I was able to hold a group of about 3" from 21'. As some have warned me, it did appear to be shooting high with this particular load. Unfortunately I did not have anything else to shoot. The recoil with the Pachs was managable, but I want to try it with the wood grips as well. I used to have one with the stock wood grips on it and I don't recall the recoil being as bad as today. It could be the ammo I guess. I don't remember what ammo I used in the other one. Overall I was pleased with the Colt. I even carried it around some in a IWB today and was pretty comfortable with it. Besides its pretty

I picked up a 4" Trooper III a couple of weeks ago in blue. I haven't been to the range with it yet, hope to get out now that it's warmer. The Trooper looks almost new with a very light line around the cylinder. If I were at home I could post pics of it.

Well, heck. Even duct tape would be an improvement on rubber grips. I've never understood how Colt could have slapped those ugly things on such dandy revolvers.

just picked it up this afternoon

I haven't decided about carrying it. It has been shot so I will shoot it at least.

That is an older gun with the Python type lock work. Congratulations on that find. Good buy.

Really? A 1975 Cobra? Are you sure? I never heard that one before. I've only heard that older troopers and probably model 357s (the first post war colt 357 magnum model) had the Python style lockwork, but not a D frame. Where did you get that info from? In 1975 the MKIII actions were out, which did not definitely apply to these D frames, but it was Colt making a cutback. I would think if any cobra or dick special had a Python style action, it would be pre 1970, when the troopers did.

Sweet Colt's Gentlemen, my wife won't let me play with her nickel Detective Special. So I guess I'll go on a quest to find one of my own.(another excuse to by a gun)

Winchester, It has the same style mainspring. That is the old "V" style just smaller to fit the frame. I do not think it has the extensive hand work that the Python had. But it definately has the same style mainspring.:)
