New Marlin 1895 Guide Gun

Drive Sidewsys: several weeks ago, they had the rebates listed. Now the rebates are removed and the prices lowered a bit more. Grices is one of the largest gun stores (if not the largest) in PA. As Marlin is owned by Freedom Arms, several of their other brands, such as Bushmaster, are also deeply discounted.

That's alright, I got a good price anyway so I'm happy.

Took it out today and put 20 Remington Core Lokt 405g rounds through it. 50 yards open sights got it fully sighted in.

Don't hate on the accuracy to much, most shots were offhand. The on closest to the bullseye was on a rest. After that I kinda went wild and shot off-hand rapidly firing all 5, which are all the other resulting shots lol.
Won't be doing any serious shooting until my scope comes in.
I'll post much better photos with that.

Also, what scopes do you recommend? Looking at a few, namely Nikon, Leupold, and Sig optics. Any recommendations for my specific rifle?

Congrats on the new 1895, they're great rifles. On my 22" 1895, I have a Vortex Diamondback HP 2-8x32 mounted on an EGW rail (but lots of good optics company's make similar power scopes). Good enough to hit 200 yd. steel on my local range, and dialed down (2,3 or 4 power) would be a great hunting scope. Also, mounting on a rail give you a lot of flexibility on fore/aft movement of the scope.

I'm kinda stuck on a Leupold VX-2 2-7x33 right now...
anything on Tru-glo scopes?
Also interested in Sig Sauer optics, I know they build quality firearms but I have never heard much of there optics.
It's tapped for a rail I have to get one though.

Vortex builds a very nice scope from what I've heard to

That Leupold would be a great choice for that rifle. My dad has the same gun in 450 Marlin and he loves it. I could hand load for it, but he is content with the 325 FTX Levlution? loads.

How's your shoulder? ;)

Don't forget about the Redfield Revolution in 2-7x33. It's a Leupold Rifleman with different badging. With a little searching around, they can be had for $150. The Sig scopes I have looked at didn't have the kind of eye relief I would want in a 45-70 scope.

The Marlin 1895s in .45-70 are great guns, and fun. Handloads with the Hornady 300 grain hollow points or 350 grain flat points are all you'll need in the Catskills. Wild West Guns in Anchorage, AK can rechamber it for the .457 Mag., if you decide you want more excitement!

Love the screen name... grin

I have the same rifle...45-70
what ever scope you get... make sure you have 2.5 or MORE inches of eye relief! Don't ask
