New LCR 357

I assume you mean SD loads as there are tons of target loads available. I know of three that should get the job done if you don't want to go to +P: Hornady's Critical Defense Lite 90gr, Critical Defense 110gr, and Winchester's 130gr Defend load. If I was going to have the LCR38, I'd use the Lite and call it done.

Yes. I've kept my alloy snubs and older non+p stuff stocked with 110gr Silvertips. They aren't bad but they're no Nyclad. They also aren't new. That isn't necessarily bad in itself but neither is innovation or development. I'll check out your recommendations.

I just bought the same and there is absolutely no rattle or anything when I shake it. But since I'm the novice can't say what it might be. Call Ruger if you have doubts or questions. They're excellent.
I can say with surety that we got the 357 over the 38spec because of the extra weight. My wife nor I will be shooting mags out of this just reg 38 specials(for my wife) and me 38 +P's. I agree with Hornady lite 90 grains or 110 grains maybe even speer 135 grain P+. Have some of all & I'll try them out.

My LCR .357 has nothing but .357's through it since I got it. It's nice to know that I can shoot .38's in it if I have to but, if I was only going to shoot .38's I would have gotten the LCR .38.

OP, I've noticed the same rattly transfer bars in late model S&W 629s. Once you get the insides oiled up they tend to quiet down. I imagine it would be the same with a Ruger. Enjoy!

Since this popped back to the top I figured I would give an update.

I think (as many of you have suggested) the rattle was the transfer bar. I have since been to the range many times and have several hundred rounds through the gun and the rattle is far less noticeable now than it was out of the box. Now I don't know if its really a softer noise now or I just dont notice it but either way its certainly not ruining any level of enjoyment I'm getting out of this firearm.

This little revolver is a joy to shoot. It points great and for me is accurate at the usual concealed carry distances. I'm not the best shot falling squarely in the average range (I'm guessing). I shoot this gun better than most and have enjoyed every trip to the range thus far.

I have been mostly using .38's with some +P's thrown in. I have shot about 50 FMJ .357's out of it and while I can't say that was fun it was no where near as bad as I had made it up in my mind. I will not be bringing .357's to the range with me often but in a defensive situation or if it was all I could get my hands on its nice to know I have the option.

So if you can't tell no buyers remorse here.

Congratulations on your LCR .357!

Shoot it a bit more and I'm sure you won't notice the rattle - especially if you leave your ear muffs off a couple times. :D

I've mentioned this several times but will keep on mentioning this. You have a lot of ammo choices out there with a .357 magnum. I just plain will not shoot 158 grain .357 magnums out of an LCR, tried it and it hurts my hand too much. YMMV. The 125 grain .357 magnums I will shoot...just not many and any given time. All that said if I was buying one I'd for sure get the .357 even if I spent most of the time shooting .38 specials out of it. From what I've heard the .38 special will most likely get the job done anyway.

Good luck.
