New Gun Day! Shield 9mm

Ibmikey.

I have been using TruGlo sights for years, personly I like the all green version.

Did you notice that in order to line up your TruGlo sights, the rear is a bit to the right, to shoot straight?

Thank you, everyone. I think I'm going to like this one.

Boogie, it looks like every other Shield out there, but how about this? I'll post pics after my first range trip.

As for sights, I am most likely going to swap out the sights, but the model that had night sights was an extra $80 at Academy. For that kind of coin, I'd rather pick them and have them installed in this case. I'll check out the Tru Glos.

I was able to sneak out to the range today. I originally intended to shoot more than I did, but I only had 100 rounds with me, and I didn't feel like paying range prices for ammo when I have ammo I bought in bulk sitting at home. Besides, I hold the Sunday Afternoon Nap to be sacrosanct. Anyway, she's a sweet little shooter. Zero malfunctions, and the recoil is surprisingly mild for such a little pistol. As little as I like mag extensions being used as part of the grip, I was able to definitively determine that I prefer the grip on the Shield with an 8-round mag over its grip with a 7-rouind mags.

If and when I can upload pictures, I will full and sole responsibility for the shooting. I shot a total of 39 rounds into each of the top targets (four 8-round mags and one 7-round mag), and the remaining 22 rounds out of my 100 into the bottom one.

Boogie the Oily, I promised you pictures, but I was unable to upload them, even as attachments. I'll try again from my work computer tomorrow.

ETA: I was able to upload them to THR: https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/new-gun-day-shield-9mm.825381/#post-10630379

Try this Pearce grip extension, it made me prefer the 7 over the 8 round.

And congrats on the new Shield, it's a sweet little gun.

An update: Delivery of S&W's Super Summer Hideout goodies took a little longer than the 8-10 weeks initially predicted, but my stuff (two 8-round magazines, 2 boxes of Hornady Critical Defense, and a Caldwell Mag Charger) arrived last week. The mag charger is this one, and I think it's a pretty slick deal. I've never used anything like it, but it sure simplifies loading those new-&-stiff Shield mags. I've been carrying her in that StealthGear Revolution IWB Mini, and have a DeSantis double mag pouch on the way.

magguts makes an extension that turns the 8 round magaine into a ten round magazine and the base plate only extends 1/4 inch further than the original. There's a few youtube videos on them with the newer gen 2 spring. I like that this turns the single stack into an 11 round capability which is the limit in California anyways.
Haven't tried it yet, but that's on my get next list.

Try this; the lip on a Pearce extension protrudes too much, so I sanded it back.

I just put a MagGuts +1 in my Shield 7 round mag with the Pearce pinky extension. Works great, easy to install. I wasn't able to get the +1 loaded so I emailed them, they replied with a possible issue that turned out to resolve it. I might also get a +2 for the 8-round mag. Great product and good support.

Congratulations on new Shield ,had mine three years with no problems. I remember now JHP didn't cycle well at first but after a several hundred rounds ball ammo JHP,FMJTC and 147 gr Flat Point works fine. Check new Mags for oil ,burrs and metal shavings
