New Glock 17 Mags in a Glock 19: Not So Good

So it turns out the problem wasn't the magazines. Inspected the magazines today, put one in the pistol, pull back on the slide and thunk. Still won't strip the round. Got the idea here to try the slide stop and sure as could be it works like a charm. Now I'm confused. I neglected to mention that this G19 has a Vicker's Tactical slide stop. I put the factory slide stop back in and success, the slide strips the top round no problem. Now I'm surprised. I have another G19 set up the exact same way (one for beating on in classes, one for carry and home defense) and I try the magazines in that G19. Works like a charm despite also having a Vicker's Tactical slide stop.

I got lazy at this point and just wanted to go to the range. The question is if this particular G19 doesn't like Vicker's Tactical slide stops, or if this Vicker's Tactical slide stop is just slightly out of spec. Comparing the two slide stops I don't see a difference, same with the pistols. Anyway, I wanted to exonerate the magazines.

That is a puzzle! I don't understand how a slide stop could keep a gun from stripping around from the mag -- but don't doubt that you've correctly reported what you found.

With the Vickers slide stop installed, can you use the slingshot or do the hand-over release techniques to get it to strip the top round? (It may be something as simple as polishing/sanding the part of the slide stop that presses against the notch on the slide; maybe it's just grabbing too much when released and slowing the process.

Really unusual.

Not on the G17 mags if they're fully loaded, but it works fine on the G19 mags even if they're fully loaded. And again, the other G19 with a Vicker's slide stop doesn't have this problem. As best as I can tell visually the offending slide stop is still catching the slide when the slide is pulled rearward with the G17 mags. It's not dropping out of the way and the slide is just slamming into that slide stop. It's not actually hitting the round at all, that was my mistake earlier.

I think you're right about polishing/sanding. For some reason the Vicker's slide stop in that particular pistol seems to sit a bit far rearward.
