New from PA - EAA Tanfoglio Witness PS 9mm

That's a nice-looking first pistol. I've always wanted to try one of the polymer versions. That's one I pretty much have to buy to try though and funding is limited. Of course, my luck could change. The nice lady who shares the gun budget with me has been thinking about a Pavona.

Speaking of, your wife sounds like a lot of wives. Safety is crucial but some people are more sensitive than others. Remember that a lot of people don't grow up with guns but they do get hit with anti-gun propaganda throughout their lives and they do see guns in association with violent or bad things in media. By taking her concerns seriously, demonstrating a commitment to firearms safety, and enjoying yourself while you do; you might get her out to the range one day. Just be careful. She might like it and you could end up sharing your gun budget too!

Johnnyc... you're right up 422. Not to far.

Cosmodragon... thanks. The Tanfoglio shoots very well, and is not expensive. Mine was $325 out the door. My wife did grow up with guns, but because she and her sister were forced to go to the range to keep her brother (middle child) and dad happy, she can't stand them (or anything else he liked). He didn't have to what the girls wanted to do either. That still sticks in her craw. So sharing won't be a problem. That being said, she has been fairly supportive of my newest hobby/sport.

FYI: I just picked up a Laserlyte FSL-4 laser sight. Tiny little thing, fits well, though I did need to lightly file the rail slot so the bolt would go through. I'll let you know how it holds up to live fire.

Congrats on the purchase and the reintroduction to the shooting sports. You're taking the right steps in firearms ownership and in keeping marital bliss!

Auriemma, that's an opposite kind of problem. It could mean less hassle for you but it's sure to be a harder entry barrier for her. Still, if you never push but always leave a friendly door open, she might walk through it years down the road. :)

Meanwhile, here is a link to the Witness Pavona my wife has been considering. I told her I'd buy her a new gun for Christmas and she is still trying to choose. She is between two of the colors here and a couple other things. I've got to sit back and let her do her thing but I really hope she lands on one of these so I can shoot it!

Again... Thanks!

I do keep the door open. I usually ask if she wants to join me. I get a polite "no thanks, go have fun".

If the Pavona handles anything close to the Witness P... you both will be very pleased.

I am thinking about a .22LR conversion kit. Any opinions?
And no, I don't do anything just a little, like dip my toe in the water... I get soaked head to toes!

I am thinking about a .22LR conversion kit. Any opinions?

I had the conversion kit for my witness and it worked pretty well. The one issue was with the stock slide stop spring the slide didn't lock back after the last round of 22lr. The kit comes with a lighter slide stop spring for 22 ammo but then the gun wouldn't run correctly with 9mm ammo. Switching the springs out if you were going from one caliber to another is a pain in the butt so I just left in the heavier 9mm spring

I went with a buddy today to check out some pistols. It was time to try a few on for size. Handled the Taurus PT111 G2, S&W SD9VE, Ruger SR9, Canik TP9SA, and the EAA SAR K2P. We both put one on layaway. He went with the Canik and I went with the K2P. The K2P was the best fit and balance for me and contrary to my concern was the easiest slide to rack out of the entire group. I look forward to bringing it home and comparing it to my buddy's Canik.

Railroader... I'll keep that in mind if I can ever find a kit. The seem to be like hen's teeth.

GarandTD... Glad to hear you found one that fits. I handled a K2P, nice pistol.

After 2 attempts trying the laser sight, I'll pass for now. I do better with 3 dot sights. Still shooting low, but getting better.

I watched an older gentleman shooting a Glock, standard sights, putting 4-5" groups down at 25 yards. Impressive. The range officer said he is in 3-5x a week, it's his retirement thing to do. Again... impressive.

I've been very pleased with the Witness series and have had one or more since the mid-'90s. I've used it in 9mm, 40 and 45 auto and have fired several thousand rounds through them with little or no problem. Although I keep an S&W SD9VE available for emergencies at home I've kept a Witness for carry and close by when working in a convenience store. It's one of the best buys around that I've found.

And now I have a new toy for my Witness PS...
A 22LR conversion kit. These are hard to find. Won it from Fleabay. It should be in next week. Hopefully it's in as good a condition as described.

When it gets in, is there anything I should be looking for out of the ordinary?

Guess what arrived today... the 22 Conversion kit.

It was simple to install, remove the 9mm slide, and slip in the 22 kit, locking it in as usual. The fact the the barrel has no lugs was concerning, but that's how it's designed. The mag will drop out only if the mag release is fully depressed. Anything less and you need to pull it out, it is plastic and there is not enough weight. And as others have stated, the slide does not lock open when the last shot is fired.

So I inspected it, installed it, then took it to the range, just to make sure all was good before giving the seller feedback.
90 rounds down range (40 Federal American Eagle 38 gr., 50 Federal Game-shock 40 gr.), and only 1 FTF (from the American Eagle).

Oddly enough, most of my shots went from center to 1" left consistently.
Otherwise my only complaint is that the sights have no dots, but they are adjustable and replaceable. Interesting that the 9mm Witness PS sights are neither.

I have to say... I like it!
