New Florida concealed firearm/gun law; veterans...

If I were an anti-gunner graduate student...I could finish my degree from this thread....

As a vet, I congratulate Florida for doing the right thing yet again.

All the pro's and con's for training will never end.
I just did a 7+ hour ccc with qualification yesterday and during the legal aspects we talked about the new Wisconsin permit and that MN is on WI's list, however New Mexico just removed MN from their list because we do not certify the permit as to the firearm platform and calibre, YET the sate of NM lists Wisconsin and there is NO qualification requirements at all!
Where does it end?
Edit to mean handgun firing exersize. Hunters safety does have rifle shooting exersize.

Lost in the sauce...

And once again, another TFL topic gets lost in the sauce... :(.

My topic point wasn't about band members in SE Asia or who is a veteran or what different state concealed carry standards are.
My point that I wrote a few days ago was how ANY veteran should get or keep using skill/marksmanship training even if it's NOT mandated by the Div of Licensing.

ATTN; honorable discharge US military veterans in Florida....
I saw a media item; www.myfoxorlando.com , that a new state bill is being developed that will allow US military veterans with honorable discharges(who meet all the legal-mental health requirements) to carry loaded, concealed weapons in Florida WITHOUT a formal W/concealed license.

This seems perfectly reasonable. Besides the argument that constitutionally we all should be afforded this right, we trained our military personnel to use firearms, we asked them to put their lives on the line for us. The least we can do is let them defend themselves back home.

I may take heat for this, but being a veteran doesn't guarantee any familiarity with firearms, especially handguns.

Neither does the CCW licensing process, beyond the absolute minimum. My class - and I am licensed in FL - included about 2 hours of classroom time on how handguns work (plus more time on other topics) and 1 hour at the range. I can't believe that's more valuable than military service.

To Kraigwy, I am aware there were army troops in Vietnam, although the Marines suffered higher casualties. At the same time, there were always more US Army troops in Germany than there were in Vietnam at any one time. I also know there were more US Army troops in the Pacific than there were Marines. The division I spent most of my time with when I was in was the first to fight in both WWII and Korea.

There could be some question about the wisdom of enlisting anyone as young as 18 into the service and it isn't a new question. But my father was 28 when he was drafted during WWII, although he was older than average. We Americans often get things upside down for a while. We have a high drinking age and a low driving age. It probably ought to be just the opposite.

I was wondering why Florida was offering to put the letter "V" on the drivers licenses of vets.

Now I know.

Went to get one but found out I had to go through the whole "Real ID" process and didn't have all the stuff I needed.

My Georgia license required proof of GA residence, a fingerprint card, an application form, a criminal background check, and payment. No training, firearm or legal, required.

Curiously GA is also one of the states that does not require military members to have a permit. The list of exemptions of people not requiring permits in GA is quite lengthy.
